Xavier University is seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to contribute to the University’s success by providing strategic and tactical broad-based HR consulting.  This position is a direct report to the Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer.  The incumbent will facilitate the delivery of workplace strategies that impact culture and drive attainment of the HR strategic plan. The HRBP works closely with leadership to provide HR advice and recommendations on meeting division and academic business needs as well as University wide strategic initiatives. In addition, the position provides human resource consultation to administrators, supervisors, faculty and staff. The ideal incumbent will exemplify a high level of professionalism, ability to build relationships, confidentiality and maturity.

Job Summary:

The incumbent should exercise impeccable attention to detail and a dedication to excellence in all aspects of work. HR consultation and subject matter expertise should include, but are not limited to; general benefits consulting, salary structure, employee relations, organizational development, performance management, strategic planning, restructures, strategic workforce planning (development and succession), and talent acquisition and engagement.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Establishes relationships across the HR function to deliver value -added services to management and employees that reflect the University objectives.
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies.
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues.
  • Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal department as needed/required.
  • Provides consultation for all phases of the recruiting process with hiring managers and search committees, i.e. planning of staffing projections, applicant pool development, posting and advertising, screening and selection.
  • Advises hiring managers on position classification and salary targets.
  • Provides confidential and strategic consultation in areas such as salary benchmarking, coaching/mentoring, and development of strategic workforce planning.
  • Proactively engages in reorganizations, change management efforts, and division goals and initiatives.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned or as become evident.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Higher education experience is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues and/or HR leadership.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of constituents.
  • Demonstrates agility and flexibility to manage multiple priorities and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task with interruptions and changing priorities.
