The College of Professional Sciences at Xavier University is seeking experienced, innovative, and highly motivated candidates for a full-time tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor of Social Work, Master of Social Work (MSW) Program Director to begin in January 2025.  This role will provide academic leadership for a new MSW program to add to its long-standing Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). This position requires the successful candidate to be available to work on campus.

Responsibilities include teaching at the BSW and MSW levels, curriculum and program development, pursuing grant opportunities, academic student advising, participating in department/college/university/community service, and developing a scholarly agenda. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to student-centered pedagogy, social justice, and engaged learning and have distance teaching and course development experience. The successful candidate will have “demonstrated leadership ability through teaching, scholarship, curriculum development, administrative experience, and other academic and professional activities in the field of social work” (CSWE, 2023, p.1).  The Master of Social Work Program Director will work directly with the Chair of the Social Work Department and the office of the Dean of the College for Professional Sciences to lead accreditation efforts for the Master of Social Work program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • While a doctoral degree in social work is preferred, related doctoral degrees will also be reviewed for acceptance;
  • A master’s social work degree from a CSWE-accredited program (or a CASWE-accredited degree recognized through an MOU with CSWE, or an ISWDRES-evaluated degree;
  • At least two (2) years of post-master’s social work degree practice experience in social work;
  • Previous full-time experience with instruction in social work education;
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to working as part of a collaborative team;
  • Passion for exciting and motivating students from diverse backgrounds;
  • Contribution to a campus climate that supports equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with CSWE accreditation standards and processes.
  • Demonstrated experience with program and curriculum development and management.
  • Experience with online teaching and/or distance education program.
  • Experience in coordinating and implementing programs in an educational setting.
  • Record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Position:

Nine-month faculty contract with Program Director responsibilities and resources, and summer teaching opportunities

Salary/Rank:

Assistant/Associate professor with salary commensurate to qualifications and experience.
