As academic advisor, this individual will focus on first and second year as well as undecided business students—and play an important role in helping students with major selection, graduation planning, and experiential learning.  Specifically, this role will help coordinate and manage the College’s Internship for Credit (IFC) program and Castleberry Grant (which supports work with local start-ups).

The successful candidate will serve as a professional advisor under the student success model and collaborate with faculty, advisors, success coaches, career development, financial aid, and disability access/resources to help business students reach their academic, graduation, and career goals. This person will work alongside the WCB Academic Advisor and report to the Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Programs, Williams College of Business.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES.  Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide individualized academic advising to (200+) current and prospective undergraduate business students with specific emphasis on first-year, sophomore, and undecided majors.
  • Identify and communicate with advisees based on mid-term and end-of-semester grades.  Develop outreach strategies and referrals and monitor their progress.
  • Assist with off campus approvals, summer school, study abroad advising, as needed.
  • Connect students to campus resources that support and aid retention, progression, and academic success (such as Office of Student Success, Writing Center, Math Lab, Health & Counseling, Career Development, etc.).
  • Work directly with university departments (Registrar’s Office, Bursar, Student Success Center, Accessibility and Disability Services, Financial Aid, Mentoring Program, Health & Wellness/McGrath, TRIO, Athletics, etc.) and Deans to assist students with day-to-day issues related to registration, degree completion, or academic success.
  • Work with the WCB Academic Advisor to deliver workshops prior to fall and spring advising and registration.  Help students better understand program requirements, curriculum, co-curricular, and degree progression. Educate students on how to utilize online tools such as DegreeWorks, Banner Self-Service, etc.
  • Assist the Assistant Dean and WCB Undergraduate Office with registration, graduation pre-checks and certifications, add/drop, changes of major/minor, waitlists, waiver-subs, and override processes.
  • Coordinate and manage credit-bearing internship programs and budget.  Help with promotion, internship approvals, registration, course fees, faculty compensation, and employer feedback.  Collaborate with faculty, start-up sources (incubators, accelerators, local businesses) to connect students to work opportunities).
  • Encourage students to engage in experiential learning that enhances their academic and career goals.  Guide students on how activities such as internships, study abroad, etc. can fit into their four-year plan.  Collaborate with student clubs and organizations to create awareness and promote engagement.
  • Assist with recruiting and retention efforts, including X-Days, campus visits, and FY summer registration.  Meet with prospective students and families, as needed.
