Required Experience: Bachelor's degree in programming/systems or computer science or other related field or 4 years of relevant work experience. 3-5 years of work experience including advanced programming techniques and application design. Knowledge of distributed systems architecture, middleware, or object-oriented analysis and design.

Preferred Experience: WordPress, PHP, Modern JavaScript (Modern JS), React, Next, Node, C#, and MySQL.

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A for any employer.

Estimated hiring range: $113,000 – $137,000

The Job

If so, we’re seeking a talented Software Development Engineer to serve on our mission-critical Support Team. See yourself building the tools that will lead to a better life for thousands of children in the most vulnerable places around the world. In this role, you’ll be tasked with providing excellent online experience for our donors. You’ll receive opportunities to expand and grow your skills as you work in a detective-like manner to handle urgent break-fix issues, collaborate with a diverse set of other teams, instrument monitoring systems, build automation for operational tasks, and just have fun solving problems. As part of the Support Team, you will also be part of an on-call rotation that gives heightened awareness of systems issues and addresses donor-facing concerns.

Responsibilities will include

  1. Keep Christ central in individual and corporate life. Actively participate in and contribute to the spiritual disciplines of the organization (Christian conduct, chapel, prayer, worship, devotions, and leadership of devotions); incorporate WV Core Values into decisions within scope of role.

2.    Application Team Support

  • Participate in the project planning process with IT business analysts and team members. 
  • May develop work plan timelines and manage workflows to meet project time frames. 
  • Work with Applications Developer Team Lead and Sr. Applications Developer as well as ‘the operations team’ and architects to ensure the practical, smooth, effective retirement of application, which may include any data migration, planning of application de-coupling, and staging and phasing of work to ensure smooth, risk-free application retirement. 
  • Provide technical coaching and mentoring to less experienced team members. 

3.    Application Development 

  • Identify technical requirements.  
  • Create technical design specifications and assist in sizing technical requirements. 
  • Code applications using a disciplined development process and in accord with the company and team's standard development process (SDLC).  
  • Integrate solutions with other applications and platforms outside the framework.  
  •  Develop, execute, and document test plans. 
  • Assist in the deployment of new modules, upgrades and fixes to the production environment.  
  • Make modules production ready by moving them to libraries, completing forms, following procedures, completing version control documents, etc. 
  • Provide ongoing maintenance of applications. 
  • Participate in review sessions where patterns of development and break/fix metrics are reviewed as part of standard process for optimizing IT development processes. 
  • Assist in the development of user guides and training documentation for systems. 
  • May evaluate new application packages and tools and perform research on best practices.  
  • Provide recommendations for the solutions. 
  • Participate in defining and refining standards and procedures and help team to follow them. 

4.    Application Maintenance 

  • Provide Level 1 and 2 production support.  
  • Troubleshoot existing information systems to identify errors or deficiencies and develop solutions 
  • Evaluate existing applications and platforms and provide recommendations for improving application performance by conducting gap analysis, identifying feasible alternative solutions, and assisting in the scope of modifications.  
  • Follow team's documentation standards 
  • Review modules for quality assurance and checks compliance with application standards and Service Level Agreements (SLAs). 
  1. Work collaboratively with team members when assigned to work as a member of a team. 
  2. Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary & Benefits

WVUS Pay Grade Level: 227

Estimated hiring range is: $113,000 – $137,000

The posted hiring salary range reflects pay for U.S. locations and is determined using market data and internal compensation guidelines. Actual compensation may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic location, job-related experience, and applicable laws. A different range may apply in certain locations.
