Required Experience: Bachelor’s degree in public policy, International Relations, Political Science, Law, or a related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Master’s degree preferred. In addition to education or education equivalent, must have ten to fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in policy development and advocacy, including public outreach, lobbying Congress, and working with the executive branch of government, public advocacy movements and other policy making institutions.

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A. for any employer.

Travel: Up to 10% of time may be required.

Estimated Salary Range: $141,000-$186,000

The Job

The VP, Policy and Advocacy will provide leadership and strategic direction to advance World Vision's work with the USG and other public institutions. The VP will lead the Public Policy and Advocacy team that supports government relations in Washington DC and Advocacy Mobilization across the U.S. The focus of this role will be to strengthen World Vision’s reputation, technical brand and policy influence, develop key relationships aimed at growing our public portfolio in alignment with WV’s global strategy priorities, and mobilize constituents/build Congressional champions around policies that improve the lives of children and families both internationally and domestically. Oversee development of policy documents and ensure thought leadership for WVUS and that informs World Vision International policy discussions. Engage as a member of the International Programs Group Leadership Team. Ensure leadership that carries out WV’s Christian mission, vision, and deed.

 

Responsibilities Will Include

  • Keep Christ central in individual and corporate life. Actively participate in and contribute to the spiritual disciplines of the organization (Christian conduct, chapel, prayer, worship, devotions, and leadership of devotions); embrace and promote WV’s core values.
  • Act as external point on advocating with government leaders and building strong relationships with Members of Congress and Senate and staff members and USG Administration officials.
  • Work collaboratively with WVUS communicators and WVI advocacy leaders to ensure alignment with WVUS strategic directions.
  • Lead the Government Relations team that develops and coordinates policy and advocacy positions on international and domestic programming issues that reflect World Vision's perspective and provides thought leadership around issues that impact children around the world and domestically when relevant.
  • Support WVUS senior leaders as they engage with USGLC, InterAction and other coalitions, ensuring strategic use of WV’s voice and influence.
  • Lead the Advocacy Mobilization team that mobilizes World Vision donors, churches and other ministry partners to action on key public policy and legislative issues affecting the poor and oppressed and engages in district-level meetings with members of Congress across the country.  
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for the grass-roots campaign team and draw new constituents into the work of World Vision through advocacy campaign efforts. 
  • Represent WVUS policy and advocacy interests through the Partnership's Policy and Advocacy working group and ensure that WV offices speak with one voice on select global justice issues. 
  • Integrate advocacy strategies with regional and sectoral teams of the International Programs Group to positively impact programs and support the acquisition of additional resources from public-sector donors; such as food aid, global health, funding from multilaterals and increases to foreign aid budgets. 
  • Develop metrics for measuring and tracking advocacy success.
  • Hire, fire, counsel, evaluate, terminate, and recommend salary increases and promotions for those under direct supervision. 
  • Maintain awareness of corporate goals, objectives, organizational announcements, and activities. Reference and follow organizational policies and procedures, seeking clarity as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, International Relations, Political Science, Law, or a related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Master’s degree preferred.
  • In addition to education or education equivalent, must have ten to fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in policy development and advocacy, including public outreach, lobbying Congress, and working with the executive branch of government, public advocacy movements and other policy making institutions.
  • Knowledge and experience of the international relief and development sector preferred.
  • Requires at least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing teams and strategic initiatives.

 

Salary Range & Benefits

WVUS Pay Grade Level: 240

Typical hiring range is $141,000-$186,000

The full salary range for this role is $137,800.0-$ 234,300

This range applies to locations with a market similar to our Federal Way and Washington D.C. offices. A different range may apply based on your work location.
