We are seeking an exceptional Principal Software Development Engineer with a proven history of leading teams to deliver high-quality web apps. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for developing quality websites, web apps, and eCommerce platforms who strives to elevate our web-based experiences. In this exclusive position, you will translate solution architecture into actionable tasks, guiding the team in writing high-quality, reusable code that adheres to best practices. You will be skilled at converting business narratives and technical directions from solution architects into well-documented stories, complete with flow diagrams, architecture docs, and patterns as needed. As the domain architect for the web on our Apps team, you will be responsible for full-stack development, code reviews, and providing thought leadership on engineering principles such as single responsibility, loose coupling, YAGNI, etc. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player committed to delivering the highest quality web applications.

What You Will Do

  • Lead development for some of our most important projects, from pixels to database.
  • Roughly 25% of the time on architecture/work breakdown; 50% writing code; and 25% coaching, reviewing, and advocating for good engineering principles with other devs. This is not a people management role.
  • Take technical direction from Solution Architects and break down work into consumable, understandable, and well-written tasks for the development team.
  • Work with other Domain Architects to brainstorm ideas and discover creative and innovative ways to develop solutions that are reusable and sustainable.
  • Implement and coach the less senior developers best practices such as Loose Coupling, KISS, DRY, BDUF, YAGNI, Separation of Concerns, Single Responsibility etc.
  • Write high-quality software in technologies like JavaScript with ReactJS, HTML5, CSS, WS, WordPress, PHP, MySQL, Node.js, Azure, Twilio, Auth0, and others.
  • Write high-quality, WordPress themes, plugins, and APIs built to standards.
  • Develop core eCommerce capabilities across the organization.
  • Contribute and help develop our entire SDLC.
  • Take ownership of solutions and project deliverables and clearly communicate project dependencies, blockers, changes, and limitations.
  • Enhance the productivity and velocity of the team by your expertise, coaching, and clarity.
  • Contribute to the architecture of our online experiences across all parts of the organization: web, financials, CRM, marketing automation, EDW, and others.
  • Contribute to the DevOps process and tool building.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, TPMs, Product Owners, Designers, and Business Units.
  • Collaborate with support team, QA team, and digital solutions team.
  • Keep Christ central in individual and corporate life. Actively participate in and contribute to the spiritual disciplines of the organization (e.g. Christian conduct, chapel, prayer, worship, devotions, and leadership of devotions). Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, relevant work experience.
  • In addition to education or education equivalent, requires 8 or more years of work experience in web software development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Expertise in communicating complex ideas through diagrams and documentation.
  • Expertise working with a team of developers in the same codebase.
  • Expertise in JavaScript, ReactJS, HTML, and CSS.
  • Expertise in PHP and WordPress.
  • Expertise with eCommerce.
  • Experience managing and configuring software in a cloud-based environment (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP, etc.)
  • Experience with API development and integrations.
  • Experience in writing details for stories/tickets.
  • Experience with agile/scrum and Kanban methodologies.
  • Experience launching consumer-facing software solutions.

Salary Range & Benefits

Your compensation and benefits are important to you so they’re important to us. The salary range for this role is $119,300 - $202,800. Applies to locations with a market similar to our U.S. HQ in the Greater Seattle area. A different range may apply based on your work location. The typical hiring range is $120,000 - $170,000.
