THE TEAM   

Make-A-Wish America is the national headquarters for our organization, providing resources and support for our 58 Chapters around the country. The Information Technology team is comprised of a diverse team of technologists responsible for building and operating the technologies that enable Make-A-Wish to grant the wish of every eligible child. The Information Technology team is focused on providing innovative solutions across these key areas: Operations, Security, Applications, Infrastructure, Governance, and Analytics. 

 

THE ROLE   

The Senior Manager, IT Engineering will provide strategic direction, day-to-day leadership, and management to a group of infrastructure systems administrators and engineers staff. supporting 24 hours a day, 7 days per week environment. Requires excellent stakeholder management skills and can communicate effectively with all levels of the organization. The candidate must have experience leading highly skilled professionals in a fast-paced environment with an emphasis on quality service delivery. Responsible for the Information Technology infrastructure of North America which provides IT services such as a personal computer, network and servers, email and Internet access, mobile personal devices, telephony, and data integrity. The position is also responsible for meeting defined metrics and benchmarks, ensuring staff are meeting and exceeding performance expectations, and that customer service meets standards.

 

WHERE YOU COME IN   

As the Senior Manager, IT Engineering you will:   

  • Responsible for cloud services in cloud computing platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services).
  • Leads capacity planning and life cycle management efforts for on-premises and cloud infrastructure, and reports on system utilization, available capacity, and system health.
  • Oversees all aspects of the Foundation’s technology, including 3rd party services, networks, servers, storage, databases, security and cloud.
  • Oversees operation and continuous improvement of the technology architecture lifecycle, including design, upgrade, patch management, change management, root cause analysis and managed service delivery, whether performed by internal or third-party solution providers.
  • Manages IT infrastructure staff, including hiring, scheduling, training, development, and performance management. Motivates staff while encouraging teamwork, collaboration, cross-training, and communications.
  • Assures the infrastructure software and firmware is at current revision levels. Works with vendors to schedule upgrades and coordinates with network staff.
  • Manages expenses to budget while overseeing the hardware refresh lifecycle and coordinating the ordering, receiving and invoicing activities related to the acquisition of hardware, software and new technology.
  • Stays current with technological developments related to IT infrastructure as well as management practices. Occasionally presents information at national and local conferences.
  • Promotes the use of technology, enabling the workforce to utilize new technologies in support of the strategic business plan.
  • Leads technology improvement projects, coordinates technology management in support of new systems and ensures smooth upgrades of existing systems.
  • Acts as an integral part of the IT leadership team, strongly collaborating with project management and help desk teams to ensure high quality solutions are delivered.
  • Manage the IT infrastructure resources, including drafting and executing its budget.
  • Optimize costs of organization-wide infrastructure services through internal and external sources.
  • Leads the design, specification, configuration, installation and maintenance of systems/storage/security/network hardware, software, telecommunication services and internet providers.
  • Facilitate communication between management, staff, and customers to ensure an effective approach to the implementation of IT solutions.
  • Research and recommend purchases and negotiate with vendors to ensure cost-effective purchasing decisions.
  • Monitor system health/availability. Produces and maintains highly available services to meet the organization’s growing demands.
  • Ensuring the strategy and technology roadmaps are in place and reviewed regularly with the Systems.
  • Actively participates in Disaster Recovery helping direct the development and execution of an Authority-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Performs other related job duties, as assigned

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years hands-on experience supporting network, systems, storage, security and cloud infrastructure required.
  • 1+ years' experience leading a technology team desired.
  • Deep understanding of network and server infrastructure, high-availability solutions and root cause analysis required.
  • Proficient in the installation and maintenance of Microsoft systems required.
  • Experience with Cisco and Cloud solutions required.
  • Proficiency in customer service aspect of technology delivery required.
  • Preferred Certifications: ITIL (v3 or 4), CCNA (R/S), CCNP, MCSA, MCSE
  • Position may require travel to organizational conferences and events.
