THE TEAM
The Brand and Marketing Team is comprised of innovative marketing professionals who elevate our brand and optimize enterprise marketing activities. This team’s work is focused on enhancing brand equity to increase individual and corporate giving to provide resources to grant a wish for every eligible child.
THE ROLE
The Senior Manager, Editorial & Storytelling is responsible for leading the strategy, process and the delivery of writing, editorial and storytelling services for Make-A-Wish America. The Senior Editorial and Storytelling Manager on the Creative Team directs communications across multiple platforms to ensure brand equity and alignment.
WHERE YOU COME IN
As the Senior Manager, Editorial & Storytelling you will:
- Leads the writing, editing, storytelling and proofreading for national-level marketing and brand materials and ensures all materials receive the appropriate approvals for quality, accuracy, and consistency of strategic messaging across various communication and fundraising channels.
- Oversees the content production and messaging for editorial and storytelling team.
- Coordinates, reviews and updates all content for various communication channels, ensuring brand messaging, tone and voice guidelines are maintained throughout the organization.
- Develops editorial concepts, processes, resources and tools based on revenue and organizational goals, and shares them across multiple touchpoints and channels, including print, video, digital and social media.
- Develops and implement compelling story arcs and messaging strategies that align with organizational needs for all creative projects.
- Conducts interviews with wish kids and families, as well as other diverse constituents, to gather impactful testimonials and storytelling information.
- Cultivates collaborative relationships with stakeholders throughout the National Office and chapters to ensure alignment and satisfaction across all editorial, storytelling and messaging initiatives.
- Supports the content selection for wish.org and other digital channels, ensuring a robust, diverse and thought-provoking display of interesting, engaging content that strategically drives donations.
- Provides People Leadership for Editorial Manager and Storytelling Manager through coaching, leading and professional development; manage hiring and onboarding of writing and storytelling sourcing staff.
- Manages the work of freelance writers, in line with budget and resource needs, guaranteeing clarity, professionalism, high quality and consistent voice and style in all Make-A-Wish materials.
- Follows the Brand & Marketing workflow process including use of project management tool for all projects.
- Performs other job related duties, as assigned.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English or related field required
- Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in leadership of nonprofit communications and storytelling, including print, digital and video.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, content management systems, project management systems and social media platforms
- Prior experience working in a nonprofit organization required
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Strong team player who leads with positivity and a can-do attitude
- Ability to manage multiple projects on deadline
- Must possess the ability to succeed in a learning environment
- Portfolio work required; must be compromised of work written exclusively by the writer
- Ability to lead and manage others
- Position may require travel to organizational conferences and events.
