Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is in search of an ambitious and talented professional to serve as a Designer II within our Commercial Land Development team in our Las Vegas, NV office. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients. A Designer II is expected to work on a team providing support to the civil engineers and possess a strong knowledgeable of AutoCAD Civil 3D. The primary responsibilities for the position will include the design of land development projects including commercial, municipal, institutional, hospitality, industrial, and parks projects throughout the Las Vegas valley. This is a full-time, direct hire position with benefits. The ideal candidate will have several years experience (design level or higher) in AutoCAD Civil 3D, be able to communicate and work well within a collaborative team environment, and work within the general office standards to produce high quality designs.


Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Prepares plan documents and supporting design calculations via AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of engineering principles and completes fundamental calculations
  • Able to visualize three-dimensionally when given a two-dimensional sketch
  • Able to delegate CAD assignments and determine methods and procedures when appropriate
  • Makes independent assessments of engineering challenges and recommends solutions to engineering discipline leads
  • Provides training and coordination with CAD Technicians and Engineering Interns
  • Assists in meeting deadlines, budgets, and completing projects on schedule
  • Prepares grading designs and plan & profiles of roadways and utilities
  • Prepares complete civil construction documents/improvement plan sets
  • Reviews and understands jurisdictional code requirements, and implements the requirements in design unique to each project
  • Prepares construction cost estimates/quantity takeoffs
  • Performs Quality Assurance/Quality Control of work product to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Assists with preparation of submittal documents
  • Maintains open communication with the Westwood project team
  • Possesses a sense of pride and accountability for the work performed

Required Skills

  • Able to prepare grading plans with direction from supervisor and/or team leader
  • Possesses a fundamental understanding of storm drainage, water, and sanitary sewer design elements
  • Understands industry-standard surveying, staking, and mapping practices
  • Competent technical skills required to complete basic engineering tasks
  • Proactively pursues design solutions
  • Exercises sound independent judgment
  • Strong understanding of local and agency standards, codes, and policies
  • Ability to estimate man-hours for specific tasks
  • Advanced knowledge of CAD software
  • Able to identify and obtain necessary data to complete design
  • Able to follow checklists
  • Able to maintain organized CAD drawings and draws with precision
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and able to write, send, and process email
  • Able to maintain task list and set priority of tasks to achieve project milestones and deadlines

Required Experience

  • 3 years of experience as a designer
  • 5 years of experience in CAD drafting
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 5+ years relevant experience, OR:
  • Associate’s Degree and 3+ years relevant experience
  • Land Development experience a plus
