Job Description

Assists Recovery Specialists, law firms and collection agencies with locating member borrowers, who have evaded contact, or member assets for various purposes, including collection of past due obligations, legal cases, or repossession of collateral, all while maintaining a commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards and local, state, and federal privacy laws. The Recovery Clerk will use basic skip tracing tools provided by WPCU, search engines and other online resources to complete this work.

1)      Utilize basic skip tracing tools and techniques to locate member borrowers and/or member assets using public records, online databases, social media and industry skip tracing tools such as Accurint, TLOxp, and other available systems. (35%)

2)      Provide paperwork and updated information to law firms and collection agencies working on behalf of WPCU, keeping details notes of all activity going on with individual cases. (35%)

3)      When necessary, work with members who have been located to either refer them to the appropriate collection or legal representative or negotiate repayment terms or return of collateral. (15%)

4)      Prepare reports summarizing productivity and success measures for skip tracing efforts, legal activity completed by vendor law firms and work efforts of collection agencies working on behalf of WPCU. (10%)

5)      Ensures proper policies, procedures, risk mitigation activities, and operating controls are followed. Reports gaps in policies, procedures, and operating controls to leadership to ensure member impact and risk is mitigated. (5%)


Required Skills

The Recovery Clerk must possess the following knowledge and skills:

1)      High school diploma or equivalent or ten (10) years equivalent work experience required and a minimum of one year working in a collection field where interaction with borrowers/debtors is involved.   

2)      Minimum of one year experience using basic skip tracing tools, technologies and tracking software, such as search engines, public records, social media platforms, and online databases, to locate people and assets is preferred.

3)      Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze information critically.

4)      Basic understanding and commitment of legal and ethical considerations in information gathering and knowledge of local, state and federal privacy laws. Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.

5)      Proactive and curious mindset, a strong sense of initiative, determination and problem solving, with an innovative approach to overcoming challenges and achieving objectives.

6)      Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to maintain professionalism in stressful situations and de-escalate tense conversations.

7)      Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with Partners and vendors.
