Job Description
The Collections Assistant Manager is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the collections department. Assistant managers will ensure the daily activities of the partners they manage are completed in a compliant and efficient manner. Assistant managers are accountable for providing coaching and development opportunities for all their direct reports and will serve as the first point of contact for escalated member situations.
- Manages the daily work processes of Collectors while foster high performance levels. Ensures assigned business units are operating efficiently and reliably, and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and rules, while maintaining appropriate operating controls to mitigate risk. (25%)
- Trains and develops the technical and strategic skills of collectors to effectively reduce delinquency and resulting potential Evaluates individual collector performance reports to ascertain status of collection accounts and the quality of collection activity. (20%)
- Handles heightened collection activity and is the first point of escalation for member issues. (20%)
- Responsible for the recruitment, supervision, scheduling, evaluation, and disciplinary actions of collectors. (15%)
- Maintains a positive and communicative relationship with 3rd party vendors, recovery agencies, attorneys, etc. (10%)
- Is responsible for monthly reporting of overall productivity and various reports regarding collector activities. (10%)
Required Skills
The Collections Assistant Manager must possess a high degree of working knowledge in the areas of collections and member service. Prior Collection experience, especially associated with the collection of consumer loans and negative shares is required:
- An Associate’s Degree in Finance, Business Management, or related field is desired; candidates who present an equivalent combination of formal training and a minimum of 3 years collections experience may also be considered;
- A minimum of 1 year supervisory experience, preferably in the financial industry (banks, credit unions) is desired;
- A minimum of 3 years collections experience, preferably in the financial industry, is desired;
- Demonstrated ability to learn and apply available and appropriate software applications to job functions, including the credit union’s core system and lending platform system.
- Demonstrated ability and drive to implement new and innovative initiatives to improve efficiency, quality and service levels.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state regulations/laws as they pertain to collections and ability to adhere to them.
