Job Description

The Community Development Specialist is responsible for nurturing active, strategic membership growth of the credit union, and ensuring company visibility in all aspects of the community by developing and maintaining top-strategic partner relationships with potential and existing businesses and members within an identified market.

1)      Within the Field of Membership (FOM), increase the number of new and active members, and overall strategic relationships per member by actively working assigned Select Employee Groups (SEGs), key community partnerships, Member Center geographic markets, and communities. Community Development Specialist will focus on top strategic partnerships that meet business imperatives. Identify product and services and generate subsequent referrals that meet the unique needs of the credit union’s markets and market segments. (40%)

2)      To create goodwill, strengthen partnerships, and achieve outlined business goals, presents WPCU’s financial learning curriculums and programs covering a broad range of personal financial management topics to members, community organizations, students (primary school and university), and SEG employees through various delivery channels (in-person seminars, virtual webinars, 1:1 coaching setting, social media live sessions, etc.). Involves providing financial health/wellbeing guidance and next steps action plans for the purpose of fostering new relationships. (25%)

3)      Serves as the credit union’s representative within the membership footprint to promote goodwill/public relations and position the credit union as an indispensable part of the community. This includes planning, implementing and/or participating in events and programs that appropriately position WPCU within the assigned community (i.e. trade shows, local events, chamber events & activities, credit union-alliance events, annual meeting, networking, etc.). (20%)

4)      Collaborates with corporate marketing team to coordinate and/or execute marketing-related communication, campaigns, key credit union regional events and outreach programs specific to key market partnerships and SEGs (i.e. member center grand openings, special events, etc.). (10%)

5)      Performs other duties as assigned. Ensures proper policies, procedures, risk mitigation activities, and operating controls are followed. Reports gaps in policies, procedures, and operating controls to leadership to ensure member impact and risk is mitigated. (5%)


Required Skills

1)      A Bachelor’s Degree is required in marketing, business management, communications, public relations, organizational development, and a minimum of five (5) years in a consultative environment; or a minimum of eight (8) years in a consultative environment in a technical field listed above. 

2)      A Credit Union Certified Financial Counselor (CCUFC) designation at CUNA Certified Financial Counselor School is preferred or will be expected to achieve within the first six months of employment.

3)      Ability to articulate the Credit Union movement, the WPCU difference, the WPCU brand and the benefits of WPCU products and services that results in deeper and more meaningful member and Select Employee Group relationships.

4)      Passion for facilitation with experience and can use a variety of channels, i.e. virtual, in-person, online tools, etc., to deliver programs, activities, sessions, etc.

5)      Excellent motivational and interpersonal skills with the ability to “lead” in a non-supervisory capacity.

6)      Strong attention to detail, superior organizational skills and effective activity/event coordination required.

7)      Ability to represent WPCU professionally at corporate sponsored or community events and interact effectively with and present to various audiences, including members, business-partners, and partner-employees.

8)      Ability to frequently work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and early morning hours.

9)      Ability to be a self‐starter and manage multiple tasks and projects in a collaborative team environment.
