The Director, Retail Mortgage Originations directs and manages mortgage loan production through Mortgage Originators, WPCU member centers, the WPCU Internet web site, real estate agents and builders. The Director is responsible for member service, quality control, leadership development, and profitability in the department. These duties include responsibility for corporate policies and procedures regarding mortgage originations and compliance with applicable laws.
- Monitors quality of work performed in the Retail Mortgage Department and quality of the first mortgage portfolio using reports regularly generated from the lending system, core system, and from our mortgage servicer to hold staff accountable for meeting and often exceeding minimum performance standards for productivity, member service, and profitability of the mortgage loan portfolio and the business unit. Ensure assigned business units are operating efficiently and reliably, and comply with applicable laws, regulations, and rules, have appropriate operating controls to mitigate risk, and are performing at a high level. (25%)
- Leads and meets with management team regularly to ensure that appropriate business development and sales management activities are occurring. This is accomplished by ensuring the management team is building relationships with local real estate agents, builders, members, other WPCU divisions, centers of influence (such as accountants and financial advisors) and community groups to increase the flow of incoming mortgage applications that result in closed loans. Consult with managers to ensure they are engaging loan officers frequently to make sure they contact all leads received timely and that they are managing the loan originators follow up on pre-qualifications, so that we remain a primary point of contact with this member/borrower. (20%)
- . Develops strategies, new products, plans, budgets, tactics, and success measurements for this operating unit. Monitors progress, processes and results and is accountable for developing and executing business plans, achieving desired results, and delivering a superior service experience to members. Serves on appropriate lending committees and provides pertinent information related to retail mortgage lending through data, trending, and making recommendations for adjustments to the mortgage lending program. (20%)
- . Recruit and assist in hiring new Retail Mortgage team members, ensuring new hires exhibit credit union values, are driven to succeed and have a strong work ethic. (15%)
- . Lead a management team that coordinates and conducts the training and coaching of origination staff to provide a strong mortgage lending knowledge of products and policies and the promotion of best practices. Also, expand the capabilities of management staff through coaching, training, and monitoring. Manage and lead the WPCU mortgage originations involvement with NCUA exams and internal audits and ensure appropriate compliance testing is carried out and completed timely. This incorporates working with other WPCU or myCUmortgage personnel to obtain required audit documentation. Provide management responses to audit findings. (10%)
- Develops and implements new products to meet member-owner needs, support first time home buyer goals, and market demand. (5%)
- Lead, promote and oversee the Member Preferred program (5%).
Required Skills
A. The Director, Retail Mortgage Originations is skilled and knowledgeable in managing and operating a mortgage origination function:
1) A Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in business. Candidates who present a minimum of ten years specific mortgage origination experience and formal leadership training may also be considered.
2) A minimum of five years’ experience in mortgage originations.
3) A minimum of five years of management experience is required, and preference is for experience in managing other managers/supervisors.
4) Demonstrated knowledge of conventional and government loan programs and guidelines.
5) Demonstrated ability to lead a sales team, monitor and coach individual sales efforts.
6) Demonstrated ability to analyze, reason, problem solve, and prioritize work independently.
7) Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations and solve problems and/or design recommendations to accomplish business and tactical goals.
8) Demonstrated ability to develop sound and efficient processes.
9) Demonstrated intermediate knowledge with Microsoft Office products.
10) NMLS is required.
