The Disaster Response Coordinator will work as part of the Information Security team and is responsible for ensuring that the organization is appropriately planning, testing, documenting, and executing response and recovery operations to respond to information technology or information security incidents. This position requires an understanding of disaster recovery operations, tools, and strategies as well as good communication skills. The individual will work with IT, internal business units, third party stakeholders, and executive management in order to communicate and coordinate ongoing response activities and ensure that all compliance regulations are addressed, and that existing processes are executed and effective. The Disaster Response Coordinator will direct organizational incident response activities. They will also work with members in many organizational departments to improve the resiliency of the organization and lower risk. This position is also expected to effectively interact with both internal and external auditors and regulatory examiners.

  1. Disaster Recovery (50%)

    • Plan the annual Disaster Recovery testing activities, coordinate business unit and IT involvement, and report on results
    • Provide updates to the Information Security Strategic plan to address Disaster Recovery gaps.
    • Work with IT department and external vendors as needed to ensure that Disaster Recovery processes are properly scoped, documented, and tested.
    • Work with BCP Analysts under Risk Management to review the Business Impact Assessment to ensure that all applications are included, prioritized, assessed and aligned with DR plans and objectives.
    • Ensure that organization is compliant with all regulations and industry standards pertaining to incident and disaster recovery procedures.
    • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure organization response and recovery times, with an eye towards continuous improvement.
    • Assess key strategic tactics and attend project meetings to ensure Disaster Recovery is addressed proactively as part of the project requirements and implementation activities.
    • Review outage documentation to ensure proper root cause analysis is properly documented.

  2. Data Incident Management (20%)
    • Coordinate with internal business units or stakeholders to ensure that incident response process is properly documented and communicated.
    • Evaluate administrative, technical, or physical security controls that can improve response efforts.
    • Formally document all incident response activities and update key performance indicators (KPIs) related to reporting Data Incidents to the Enterprise Risk Management Team/Committee
  3. Response Plan Testing and Training (20%)

    • Plan and direct tabletop simulations for organizational incident response that address both the response plans for senior leadership and technical support teams.
    • Educate stakeholders on updated response and disaster procedure through simulations, electronic communications, or learning sessions.

  4. Documentation (10%)
    • Coordinate activities across the Information Security Team and with Vendor Management to address data flow diagrams.
    • Ensures proper policies, procedures, risk mitigation activities, and operating controls are followed.  Reports gaps in policies, procedures, and operating controls to leadership to ensure member impact and risk is mitigated.  
    • Ensure annual updates are consistently completed in regards to Disaster Recovery and Data Incident Response.

Required Skills

    1. A Bachelor’s Degree in information technology or computer science is required. Candidates without a bachelor’s degree will be considered who can demonstrate equivalent work experience or training.
    2. CISSP or EC-Council Disaster Recovery Professional (EDRP). Candidates without these certificates will be considered, however they will be required to obtain certification within the first year of employment.
    3. At least 5 years of experience in the information technology or information security field.
    4. Valid driver’s license is required as the position will be required to travel to various locations to perform assessments.
    5. Must possess strong analytical and problem solving abilities in a complex communication situations.
    6. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with a technical and non-technical audience.
