GENERAL SUMMARY

Maintains water distribution and sewer systems for the Reservation (including the Casino, Outlet Center, and RV parks).  Monitors the wells and water tanks to ensure that the proper water levels in tanks are maintained and that the pumps are working properly.  Performs a variety of maintenance duties for the Reservation, including painting valve caps, poles, blow-offs, and tanks; using a weed eater to clear brush from all service boxes, connections, hydrants, valve caps, and well houses; assisting in maintenance and repair of fences; and rounding-up cattle in off-limits areas as needed

CORE SCOPE OF POSITION

  • Learns to perform the various tasks associated with the maintenance and operation of a water distribution system.
  • Learns the proper use of tools and equipment required to perform the job.
  • Under direction, participates in the installation, repairs and replacement of water mains, water services, valves, fire hydrants and water meters.
  • Interacts with customers and acts as a representative of the Company.
  • Performs meter reads, on and offs and field investigations.
  • Performs collection activities of delinquent accounts.
  • Participates in routine maintenance activities such as system flushing, valve exercising and fire hydrant maintenance.
  • Under direction, follows established policies and procedures in repair of equipment to ensure proper working order.
  • Operates company vehicles and equipment according to established safety procedures and policies.
  • Maintains water distribution and sewer systems for the Reservation (including the Casino, Outlet Center, and RV parks).   Tests, maintains, and repairs all fire system devices.  Flushes fire hydrants to clear debris from lines.  Sets up and maintains 3-inch highline irrigation system for the fields.  Repairs and replaces parts in irrigation system in the ballpark.  Exercises water main valves and blow-off valves.  Inspects and tests back flow devices.
  • Responds to emergency calls from the Reservation for broken service line, broken main lines, and other emergency situations.  May be asked to respond to emergency situations during non-regularly scheduled hours.
  • Uses the telemetry system (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System) to monitor wells and water tanks from home computer during off-hours; ensures that the proper water levels in tanks are maintained and that the pumps are working properly.
  • Takes and records meter readings for wells, buildings, and irrigation systems and takes water samples
  • Maintains and repairs chemical feed pumps and checks for residual of chemicals in water.
  • Sets up work area barricades and safety signs.
  • Paints valve caps, poles, blow-offs, and tanks
  • Uses weed eater to clear brush from all service boxes, connections, hydrants, valve caps, and well houses.
  • Assists in maintenance and repair of fences.
  • Rounds-up cattle in off-limits areas as needed.
  • Operates a variety of equipment, including generators, 3" to 6" diesel pumps, air compressors, forklift, weed eater, leaf blower, and air tools.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

INTERACTION

  •  Interacts with Tribal, Federal, State and Local officials.

SUPERVISION

  • Does not provide supervision to others.

Required Experience

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

  • High school diploma or General education degree (GED) is required.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Forklift Operator certificate.
  • Valid Class C California Driver’s License or higher issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicle.
  • Must obtain a SWRCB Grade 1 Water Distribution Operator Certification within 18 months of employment start date.

EXPERIENCE

  • Two or more years of experience/training working with the operation and maintenance of electrical systems, water pumps, small water distribution systems, sewer systems, and/or water treatment plants.
  • Enrollment in preparation classes for obtaining Distribution (Grade 1) and Water Treatment (Grade 1) Experience with water quality monitoring, hydrology, microbiology, laboratory techniques, and data interpretation.
  • Experience working in confined spaces.
  • Working knowledge of safety guidelines and equipment.
