Groundskeeper I
Landscaping
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Landscaping Manager, the Groundskeeper is responsible performing routine maintenance and landscape tasks for Viejas property.
CORE SCOPE OF POSITION
- Operates vehicle and power equipment such as mowers, tractors, chain saws, rototillers, weed whips, trenchers, sod cutters, and backpack blowers to maintain the grounds of the casino and other surrounding properties.
- Reports irrigation problems on property that needs attention.
- Uses proper pruning techniques for trees, shrubs, and groundcovers.
- Participates in special projects in the Landscape Department including design, installation, and maintenance.
- Understands proper planting techniques for trees, shrubs, and flowers.
- Uses proper landscape maintenance practices, for ornamental resort landscapes.
- Checks and reports in area of responsibility proper moisture levels of plant material.
- Uses correct fertilizer, pesticide, or fungicide for different plant materials. Hauls and spreads topsoil, stone, mulch, and other landscape materials.
- Performs routine maintenance tasks without supervisor.
- Makes correct repairs to trouble calls as soon as possible with tools and materials that are made available. Contacts supervisor promptly of any problems.
- Maintains grounds in a safe and aesthetically pleasing condition.
- Adheres to all company and department policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines.
- Performs all related and compatible duties as assigned.

Required Skills
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Good verbal and interpersonal relations skills.
- Ability to use a variety of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, and pruning saws
- Strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of proper gardening techniques.
- Must be a team player.
Required Experience
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
- California driver’s license required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
EXPERIENCE
- Six months of related experience and/or training preferred
