Summary Description:
Billerud North America (BNA) is seeking a Senior Advisor who will be responsible for State and Local Taxes and who will be an integral role in the North America tax function. This position will partner with the NA finance organization as well as the tax management staff of the global parent company in Sweden.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Overall responsibility for state and local taxes, i.e. income/franchise, sales/use, excise and property tax, including compliance (together with external service provider), planning and controversies
  • Identify opportunities and minimize tax cost, within the legislative framework, while limiting risk
  • Analyze tax implications of legislative changes, suggest actions and follow-up on execution
  • Develop and improve processes to make them more efficient
  • Identify areas requiring training and improvement and deliver in-house training to relevant stakeholders
  • Liaise with and manage inquiries from tax authorities and the group's auditors during routine audits and ad hoc enquiries
  • Participate in the development and implementation of effective systems and controls to assure the accurate and efficient preparation of state and local tax returns and participate in implementing required changes and process improvements relating to tax technology developments

Required Experience

Minimum Required Experience and Education:

  • At least 7 years of relevant tax experience in a corporate tax department or large public accounting firm
  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance or Law required; MBA preferred
  • CPA required
