Position Description:
The Staff Therapist position provides counseling and psychological services to VU students including: assessment, treatment planning, implementation of individual and group counseling interventions, crisis intervention, direct and indirect psycho-educational programming and outreach, supervision of graduate level trainees, and psychological and organizational consultation. The position is designed to foster the development and contribute to the ability of Valpo students to function successfully in the academic and co-curricular environment and in post-graduation life. Compensation for this limited full-time position is $46,000 annually.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provide individual, conjoint, and group counseling to Valparaiso University students.
- Conduct intakes for incoming clients and provide the appropriate recommendations (i.e. individual counseling, referral out, AARC, health center, TAO Connect, etc.).
- Provide single appointment sessions to students at the end of each semester.
- Provide crisis intervention and crisis counseling for students whenever needed.
- Provide consultation concerning students and student problems to faculty, staff, students, parents, and other professionals.
- Administer and interpret appropriate evaluation instruments.
- Maintain accurate client records within legal and ethical guidelines of the profession.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Doctorate or Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or a related field.
- 1-2 years+ experience.
- Licensure or license eligibility in Indiana within three years of hire is necessary.
- Possessing college counseling center experience is preferred.
Other Qualifications:
- Develop and present outreach programs and services to address and respond to the needs of the campus community.
- Participate in outreach activities in the greater community on a time-available basis.
- Provide consultation and referral for University faculty, staff, and administration regarding Counseling Center policies, procedures, and services, as appropriate.
- Consult with the director and other staff regarding all major decisions which affect the Counseling Center.
- Collaborate with staff to formulate annual Counseling Center goals and objectives.
- Participate in Counseling Center, Student Affairs, and University committee work, as appropriate.
