Position Description:

The Valparaiso University Department of Athletics is seeking an individual who will lead all aspects of Valpo Athletics’ live event productions on The Valley on ESPN+ while simultaneously providing leadership of the department’s in-game video board operations. This individual will also play a role in the Valparaiso University Department of Communication and Visual Arts (CVA), advising the student-run television station VUTV and serving as a CVA staff member.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing, scheduling and staffing a team of part-time and student staff members to produce home men’s basketball, women’s basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, and football contests, producing over 80 athletic events a year as part of the Missouri Valley Conference’s partnership with ESPN+.
  • Responsible for overseeing live in-arena Athletics-Recreation Center video board operations for men’s basketball, women’s basketball and volleyball.
  • Collaborate with marketing and sponsorship units to execute and plan content that meets department goals and objectives.
  • Serve as an Engineer-in-Chief for each broadcast and fill various gameday production room roles as needed.
  • Maintain and manage all equipment within the state-of-the-art live production control room located inside the Athletics-Recreation Center.
  • Display fiscal responsibility in managing the budget for the broadcasting and streaming unit while developing a strategy and plan for maintaining and replacing broadcast equipment.
  • Responsible for live stream production for Valparaiso University graduation and other graduation events held within the Athletics-Recreation Center, in addition to press conferences and other special events.
  • Serve as a liaison with Missouri Valley Conference staff and with ESPN, ensuring quality standards are met and graphics packages are correctly updated and maintained.
  • Serve as a liaison and contact for outside production teams, assisting with their needs for home events that are selected for national and/or regional television distribution.
  • Shoot and edit vignettes, commercials, hype videos and additional creative content for use in-arena and on social media in collaboration with the athletic communications and University marketing and communications staffs.
  • Possess knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Serve as a member of the Valpo Athletics external team and attend weekly meetings with representatives from other external units.
  • Serve as the advisor for VUTV, the Valparaiso University student-run television station, for its weekly and special productions.
  • Maintain and manage all equipment within the Schnabel Hall VUTV production studio and other VUTV-owned equipment.
  • Support academic needs within the Schnabel Hall television studio.
  • Participate in the CVA department as a staff member and potentially serve as an instructor within the department.
  • Work with Valpo Student Life in the capacity of VUTV advisor.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or better. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Own two or more years of relevant experience, preferably in collegiate athletics.
  • Possess a working knowledge of NCAA and University rules and regulations as they apply to intercollegiate athletics.
  • Knowledge of video production and live stream equipment.
  • Experience with the Adobe Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, Audition, Premiere , and Illustrator) is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to respect confidentiality and practice discretion.
  • Able to communicate well in written, oral, and interpersonal communication and build rapport quickly with student-athletes, faculty, coaches, and staff.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in diverse intercollegiate athletics environments.
  • Dedication to serving the department, the University, and the student-athletes with the highest level of leadership, initiative, and integrity.
  • The position requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays during the school year.

 

Other Qualifications:
