Administrative Staff
Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing, the Assistant Vice President for Admission and Financial Aid (AVP) is a vital Enrollment Management leadership team member. Under the Vice President's leadership, the AVP will lead admission and financial aid initiatives to support and grow university enrollment across all student categories. The AVP will oversee the following positions and departments: Director of Admission and Director of Financial Aid.
Major Responsibilities:
- Works with the Vice President of Enrollment Management to create innovative enrollment strategies and processes to sustain and grow the enrollment numbers at Valparaiso University while maintaining mission integrity.
- Leads the University Admissions and Recruitment team in the strategic direction and goal setting and monitoring complex daily operations to ensure meeting or exceeding goals.
- Oversees the work of the Director of Financial Aid to ensure accurate reconciliation, compliance, and financial aid reporting. Support VPEM in matters of financial aid leveraging and athletic discounting.
- Ensures a high standard of service and student support by effectively communicating policies, procedures, and student's rights and responsibilities in a helpful, considerate, and timely manner.
- Serve as the liaison among internal and external stakeholder groups, providing admission information and representing the institution's admissions interests.
- Works collaboratively to develop partnerships with Deans, department chairs, and school-based enrollment staff and liaisons to ensure an understanding of admissions policies, guidelines, and enrollment targets.
- Mentor and develop staff, providing professional development opportunities and fostering a collaborative, positive team environment.
- Embrace and integrate Valparaiso University's mission, vision, and values into all recruitment strategies, focusing on strengthening enrollment while supporting the university's Lutheran heritage and identity.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- A bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in enrollment management and financial aid. Preference for candidates with experience in graduate and international enrollment.
- Strong ability to set measurable enrollment goals and achieve results through targeted recruitment strategies and data analysis.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse campus communities, prospective students, high school counselors, parents, and external education leaders.
- In-depth understanding of admissions processes, industry best practices, effective recruitment strategies, and knowledge of laws, policies, and procedures governing higher education enrollment management.
- Strong technological and analytical skills, demonstrated by successfully developing strategies to recruit and enroll students.
