Medical Assistant Full Time

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting nursing staff with patient admissions, recovery, and discharge.  Medical Assistants may assist with business office functions such as registration of the patient and scheduling of procedures. Participates with other facility team members to provide optimal patient care and efficient patient flow.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

1.                   Reports directly to the Clinical Charge Nurse.

2.                   Functional reporting responsibility to staff Registered Nurses

3.                   Indirectly reports to the Administrator

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

1.                   As a part of the nursing team, works as a support person in the pre-op and post-op areas to assist in providing safe, efficient care.

2.                   On a daily basis, is responsible to the Registered Nurse working in the assigned area.

3.                   May provide support for certain positions in the business office that are coordinated by the Director of Business Services and the Nursing Staff.

4.                   May be a member of facility committees to assess and promote quality patient care.

5.                   Works cooperatively with all physicians utilizing the facility.

6.                   Promotes positive relations with physicians and their office staff.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1.             Performs tasks assigned by the Registered Nurse to maintain patient flow in the pre-op and post-op areas

¨       Complete vital signs

¨       Provide comfort measures for patient

¨       Assist patient with admission and post-operative activities

¨       Retrieves and discharges patients

 

2.             Support for the pre-op and post-op areas

¨       Maintaining supply levels

¨       Participates in materials management including ordering and stocking

¨       Maintains equipment ready for use

¨       Assists with communication to business office/registration area/waiting area

 

4.                   May support business office areas as appropriate

¨       Scheduling relief when necessary

¨       Registration relief when necessary

 

5.                   Assists staff with emergency care as appropriate.

 

6.                   Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.  Possesses an understanding of the range of treatment needed by patients dependent on the stage of growth and development of an age group’s life span. 

 

7.                   Performs pre-operative and post-operative patient phone calls, answers unit phones and   retrieves patient charts.

 

8.                   Participates in staff meetings, committees, staff development and educational programs to meet personal, professional, facility certification and regulatory requirements as defined in  Medicare regulations  and the accreditation organization.

 

9.                   Accepts responsibility for patient safety and assures safe practice.

 

10.                Demonstrates competency necessary to perform patient care.

 

11.                Participates as a member of the Center team to promote a positive working environment.

 

12.                Adheres to policies and procedures of the facility.

13.                Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

1.                   High school diploma required.

2.                   1-2  years of clinical experience preferred.

3.                   BCLS required (Renewed every two years).

Wage Range $24 to $28
