HealthFitness has a new opportunity for an Benefits Advocate to work at our client site in Anderson, SC.  In this position, you will support the client’s employees and their family members in understanding, navigating, and receiving the best value out of the healthcare, wellness and employee incentive programs provided by the client. These services are provided through educating and assisting the members both face to face and telephonically to better understand and utilize their benefits program. You will serve as an onsite resource to save the member time and cost as well as reduce their stress level. 


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Understand all of the resources that are part of the Client benefits structure (including federal guideline implications) and teach people how to use the available resources.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other HealthFitness and/or vendor programs and resources.
  • Provide an on-site presence at the facilities in the assigned territory on a regular basis, as well as special events including screenings, benefits fairs and site requested meetings.
  • Participate in Client meetings, including Vendor Escalation Calls, Scorecard Review Meetings and All-Hands Calls as assigned.
  • Provide support on member advocacy cases from point of initiation to full resolution including regular and on-going status updates to the member throughout the duration of the issue.
  • Help members identify and locate physicians, dentists, hospitals and other wellness services in their benefits network.
  • Provide same member experience regardless of communication medium (phone, in-person, or email).
  • Maintain complete and accurate files and other applicable records in compliance with HIPAA laws and Data Privacy regulations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in client benefit policy by teaching employees how to efficiently find the information they’re seeking.
  • Assist with insurance claims and billing issues – investigate and help solve escalated issues.
  • Contributes to the business planning process by understanding the culture and expectations of the individual facilities within their territory.
  • Interacts directly with client and is responsible for building strong relationships to ensure high customer satisfaction.
  • Integrates effectively and seamlessly with client health partners and other employee health-related departments.
  • Develop, coordinate and conduct presentations including new hire orientations, benefits overviews and changes, and presentations at Client meetings as requested.
  • Prioritization and upkeep of administrative tasks (email, voicemail, meetings notes, etc).
  • Provide back-up support and/or coverage for colleagues as needed for overall program success.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by management.
  • Up to 25% travel required, including overnight travel.


Education, Experience & Certifications:



  • High School Diploma.
  • Demonstrated experience in researching issues, problem-solving, organizational skills and time-management.
  • Strong presentation skills for a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast paced, constantly changing environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), data entry and electronic mail applications.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of related healthcare/health insurance experience, claims processing, or provider billing.
  • Ability to continuously display a positive attitude and a professional demeanor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to adapt communication style to a diverse population (different personal, professional, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds).
  • Territory will include set office hours at each location as deemed necessary by the client.
  • CEBS, PHR, SPHR or CBP certification a plus.
  • Other key characteristics include people-oriented, self-starter, well organized.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish & English preferred.
