JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Teacher is responsible to assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate curriculum. Encourage self-esteem and independence for the social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs of each child. Ensure that health, safety and nutritional education is integrated into the overall curriculum planning. Responsible for the care, supervision, and safety of center children, keeping classroom and playground equipment clean, neat, and orderly. Must learn, implement, and follow all program policies and procedures. Responsible for the program operations in the absence of the Head Teacher. Must have compassion for the needs of children and families from all backgrounds.
Pay rates are as follows:
- $19.50 Enrolled in a CDA or degree program
- $19.75 CDA and 12 ECE credits
- $20.50 Associate’s Degree in ECE or relevant field with 12 ECE credits
- $21.50 Bachelor’s Degree in ECE or relevant field with 12 ECE credits

Required Skills
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s OR Associate’s degree in ECE or related field OR valid CDA with required 12 OEC/ECE credits (Intro to ECE, Child Development, Health, Safety& Nutrition in ECE and Child, Family & Community), or willing to achieve them within 3 years of hire to meet licensing requirements.
OR
· Enrolled in a program that will lead to an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in ECE or a related field with required 12 OEC/ECE credits (see above) to be completed within three years of the time of hire.
OR
· Enrolled in a Child Development Associate credential (CDA) program and obtain the required 12 OEC/ECE credits (see above) to be completed within two years of the time of hire.
AND
· Have access to reliable, insured transportation
· Provide a TVCCA Staff Statement of Good Health signed by a physician, physician’s assistant, or nurse practitioner completed within twelve (12) months before the date of employment, and every Thirty-six (36) months for current staff.
· Must have or obtain and maintain CT Childcare Pediatric First-Aid, CPR, AED and medication administration certification.
· Must have or obtain within 90 days of hire the Care 4 Kids Health and Safety Training
· Have the credentials to obtain a Connecticut Head Teacher License from the Department of Public Health
· Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 50lbs
· Minimum of 18 years of age
· Be able to work 35 hours/week, 52 weeks/year.
· The TVCCA Little Learners Early Education Program requires staff to be available from 7:00AM – 5:00PM to cover center operational hours on a rotational basis.
· Continue professional development per funding source requirements.
· Strong Computer skills and ability to effectively communicate with children, parents, staff and volunteers
