MAJOR FUNCTION:  The Systems Administrator is housed within the Information Technology division and will report to the Senior Systems AdministratorThis position is responsible for maintaining and expanding the college’s IT infrastructure. This position may be eligible for remote work.

Primary duties will include, but are not limited to: 

    • Installs, configures, and supports the enterprise systems hardware/software including new and existing servers, cloud based systems, storage systems, databases, and other enterprise systems.  Provide Technical assistant and advise when needed in troubleshooting enterprise and SaaS systems performance problems.
    • Monitor, maintain and update enterprise systems infrastructure including verifying integrity of data systems, reviewing logs/events, ensuring automated processes completed successfully. Maintains a library of all system/application software and documentation required to support enterprise applications.
    • Research and recommend innovative approaches to simplify and/or automated new and existing processes/tasks. Research and train on new techniques and developments in server/cloud technologies.
    • Ensuring the security of the systems by researching new/improved techniques, working with other college personnel both IT and end users, implementing security solution solutions, and monitoring and responding to security events.
    • Research and train on new techniques and developments in server/cloud technologies. Documenting procedures and changes to infrastructure/environment. 

MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:  High school diploma or its equivalent and seven years’ experience working as a Server Administrator; or a combination of education and experience.  The associate’s degree may substitute for two years of the required experience.  The bachelor’s degree is preferred, and may substitute for four years of the required experience.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING:  Knowledge and ability work in a server environment containing mostly Windows OS, but also including Unix/Linux, and Mac OSx. Storage Attached Networks (SAN). Backup/recovery solutions. Directory Services, Network Clients, Domain Name Server (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Group Policy. Virtualized systems. Network administration utilities with full administrator rights in a LAN/WAN environment.  Installing new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Ability to develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures. Contribute to and maintain system standards. Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.  Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale. Ability to perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups. Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions. Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary. Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary. Provide support per request from various college personnel.  Ability to investigate and troubleshoot issues. Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.  Coordinate and communicate with impacted college personnel. Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary. Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures. Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.  Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required. Ability to transport a variety of items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job site or transporting equipment for repair. Ability to think analytically and be a problem solver. Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and in speaking, with customers, co-workers, and various business contacts in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to work completely and accurately under time constraints and deadlines. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents and reports. Ability to work in a safe and effective manner. Ability to work after hours for support if needed. Ability to perform other duties and responsibilities as required to fulfill job function or as assigned.
