HIRING SALARY:        $23.00 - $28.00 per hour (Positions are based on the availability of grant funding) 

HOURS:                        Mondays - Thursdays 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm   (12 hours per week)

BACKGROUND: Tallahassee Community College’s Adult Education (AE) Program is currently looking for a qualified part-time instructor for our evening Adult English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Class at the TCC Gadsden Center in Quincy, FL. The purpose of the Adult ESOL program is to help adult English Language Learners (ELLs) achieve competence in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of the English language that leads to attainment of a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent, to transition to postsecondary education and training or employment and to participate fully in the civic life in the United States. The program is designed for ELLs who are able to read and write in their native language or another language.  We seek individuals who have practical work experience and backgrounds to help facilitate a rich learning environment for diverse adult education populations.

MAJOR FUNCTION:  General responsibilities include: teach engaging lessons with best instructional strategies that meet program goals, implement blended/hybrid instructional practices with Rosetta Stone software, create and submit lesson plans according to Florida Adult ESOL Curriculum Frameworks, incorporate contextualized instruction using occupational information and data, maintain accurate class rosters including withdrawals, record and submit attendance on a timely basis, manage multilevel classes, manage and report student concerns as needed, and participate in ongoing professional development. The Adult Education Instructor will be responsible for achieving student outcomes to meet program goals. The incumbent must adhere to all College policies and procedures and division and departmental procedures.

MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in a related field, from an accredited institution and one (1) year of relevant experience teaching and/or tutoring adult English language learners ESOL related skills such as reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, pronunciation, American civics, digital literacy, and career and education planning. High English fluency is expected if English is not the native language.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Knowledge of adult student characteristics, specifically students from other countries. Knowledge of the ESOL content areas. Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). General knowledge of Microsoft Office and Office365, including Outlook, Word, OneDrive and SharePoint. Ability to use English language learning software. Knowledge of second language teaching strategies. Ability to teach the ESOL content areas using hybrid/blended teaching strategies. Ability to make decisions concerning student instruction. Ability to create engaging lesson plans and activities using best practices. Ability to work and communicate with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures and varying levels of English proficiency. Ability to maintain organized and accurate records. A sincere desire to help students maximize their academic and personal potential. Ability to maintain organized and accurate records. Ability to be self-motivated, self-directed and creative. Excellent human relationship skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to critically assess situations and make sound judgments. Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques. Ability to communicate effective, verbally and in writing, to other key stakeholders. Ability to interact with other staff appropriately.

Preference will be given to those with specific teaching experience in adult ESOL and/or working with English Language Learners. Preference will be given to veterans and spouses who are eligible under the Veterans' Preference Law.
