MAJOR FUNCTION: The Commercial Vehicle Driving Instructor is a position housed at the Transportation and Logistics Center of Excellence near TCC’s main campus. The Instructor’s major function is to effectively provide classroom and real road instruction to students participating in the Commercial Vehicle Driving Program the Commercial Vehicle Driving Program. Primary responsibility includes, but is not limited to:
- Provide instruction to students in Commercial Vehicle Driving Program, providing an ideal learning environment, maintaining an appropriate balance of discipline, to transfer knowledge to students. Provide a teaching environment (lecture, group, or Individual) targeting a diverse population resulting in the earning of a State of Florida Class ‘A’ Licensure. Educate and train students to gain skills to drive eighteen-wheel commercial vehicles.
- Assists with scheduling maintenance of truck and maintaining trailer records, and maintaining vehicle registrations.
MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or its equivalent, possess a current State of Florida’s Class ‘A’ License and three years of full-time tractor-trailer truck driving experience. At least one of the three years must be within the last 24 months. Prior history of providing commercial vehicle driving training may substitute for driving experience within the last 24 months. Also, must be considered insurable.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Knowledge of Academic development. CDL training. Careers in commercial vehicle driving. Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of field and/or discipline. Organizational and interpersonal skills to lead and facilitate partnership activities with students, community groups, consortia, and colleagues within the college. Effective team member, flexible, with strong human relations skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Be self-motivated, self-directed and creative. Skilled in the use of a personal computer, use of the Microsoft Suite, and using the World Wide Web for word processing and information gathering. Develop and implement strategies to market and promote the Commercial Vehicle Driving Program. Coordinate the delivery of adult education program instruction. Design instruction to achieve student learning outcomes as defined by the college and specific departments and programs. Conduct class meetings with professionalism and enthusiasm that promotes respect for the discipline and education. Use appropriate technologies and media to enhance learning. Maintain confidentiality of student records according to FERPA guidelines. Maintain necessary educational credentials and professional skills appropriate to the teaching assignment.
