Under the general supervision of the Director, the employee will lead and oversee security operations in a professional, fast-paced environment. Execute technical, administrative, and record-keeping tasks with precision. Direct security operations and provide strategic dispatch support. Ensure exceptional customer service with a positive and professional demeanor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides departmental administrative support, including composing and typing correspondence, invoices, statements, reports, and other materials; edits and proofreads material produced by others.
- Prepares specialized reports; greets visitors to Public Safety.
- Receive and prioritize calls from staff, students, and the public requesting a variety of emergency services including police, fire, and ambulance services; exercise initiative and independent judgement in assessing alarm and emergency or routine calls; coordinate requests for dispatch in the order of importance and determine the proper level of response; dispatch units accordingly.
- Manage the College of Law switchboard, providing accurate information and directing calls effectively.
- Provides keys, maintains key logs, schedules & tracks lock changes.
- Monitors weather forecasts.
- Maintain and manage emergency phones and cell phones.
- Lead event and suite assignment coordination efforts.
- Oversee the production and maintenance of work orders.
- Develop new procedures to streamline processes.
- In the absence of the director and the lieutenant, authorize and disseminate
emergency notifications, timely warnings, and safety messages; initiate
campus lockdowns when necessary. - Prepares necessary reports to document the on-going activities of the
Public Safety Department. - Supervise the production and distribution of campus IDs and parking
permits; manage door access and visitor badges. - Prints daily reports for officers – EMS, suites, vehicles, etc.
- Administer the License Plate Reader program, update hot lists, and monitor system alerts. Periodically checks battery levels and latency of each active device.
- Manages Proxiguard Program by ensuring serviceability of beacons and NFC
tags; monitor activity and recommend additional checkpoints. - Manages lost and found by overseeing reporting, cataloging, and inventory of found property.
- Manages staff vehicle reservations and maintenance schedules.
- Assists in budget planning and management.
- May assist with interviews; screens and refers callers; answers various inquiries and provides information on departmental services and functions.
- Maintains filing and departmental equipment records; this includes maintaining specialized automated files and records and overseeing specialized documents or collection.
- Serve as back-up Public Safety Officer, when needed.
- Facilitates training programs as directed.
- Always uphold confidentiality standards.
- Project work, as assigned.

Required Skills
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Working knowledge of the computer, printer/scanner/fax machine, phones (including cell phones), and radios.
- Good telephone skills, well-modulated speaking voice and ability to provide prompt and courteous phone and walk in reception services. Initiative, independent judgment, discretion, tact, diplomacy, and interpersonal skills are required.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Must establish and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships.
- Good restraint and ability to handle stress and difficult interactions with others.
- Should possess strong communication and organizational skills overall and excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and files.

Computer Skills: Intermediate skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook & Calendar) and the ability
to learn security-based technology.
Required Experience
- AA/AS degree required. Will consider a combination of education and experience in lieu of degree.
- At least 3-5 years of administrative experience or security support experience required.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.
