The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Men's Basketball Coach and assists in the administration of all phases of the Men's Basketball program in accordance with NCAA Division I rules and philosophies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist the Head Men's Basketball Coach in the administration of all aspects of the basketball program
- Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student athletes
- Participate in pre-, in-, and post-season on the floor coaching
- Participate in on- and off-campus recruiting visits
- Work closely with admissions, housing, and other campus entities relative to Men's Basketball
- Serve as academic advisor concerning class registration and continued progress toward degree
- Coordinate practice schedule in conjunction with Women's Basketball and Volleyball
- Participate in public relations, community outreach, fund-raising, and promotional activities
- Assist in game planning and practice planning
- Represent Stetson University by adhering to high moral code and appropriate ethical standards
- Perform other site and position specific functions as assigned
Required Skills
- Effective verbal and written communication
- A commitment to the academic goals of Stetson University
- Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations; and a commitment to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the NCAA and ASUN Conference as required
- Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, alumni, program boosters, the public and administrative staff
- Ability to recruit, coach, and teach a wide skill range of athletes the fundamentals and theories of Men’s Basketball
- Support the University’s Mission and Values in their role
Required Experience
- A bachelor’s degree required
- 2-5 years demonstrated college coaching experience in coaching Men’s Basketball
- Experience with day-to-day administrative and operational responsibilities including but not limited to implementation of running and workout programs, budget management, professional development, NCAA rules and regulations, organization skills, and supporting the educational goals and ideals of the members of the men’s basketball program

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- A master’s degree preferred
- Ability to lead with integrity and positively influence the lives and athletic careers of the student-athletes on the men’s basketball team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Work Environment: Duties require: both indoor and outdoor work; direct exposure to prevailing weather, extreme heat, humidity, and extreme cold; physical ability to endure physically strenuous work-outs and physical exercise on a daily basis, including standing and/or walking for long periods, bending, stooping, lifting; manual dexterity; lifting of up to fifty pounds; ability to work hours outside the normal University schedule; physical ability to travel; perceptual demands for sound, form, depth.
