The Digital and Social Media Strategist supports Stetson University by enhancing and growing the university’s online presence. This includes organic social media and social media ad campaigns that recruit prospective students and engage current students, faculty, staff, alumni, and donors, helping to ensure the university’s financial strength. Serving as a member of University Marketing, the Digital and Social Media Strategist also assists with marketing and other publicity efforts for the university. In alignment with Stetson’s Strategic Priorities, the Digital and Social Media Strategist will help foster a strong sense of community and promote university initiatives, including student wellness and mental health.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Write/post items to the university's social media outlets, monitor mentions of the university on social media, and create reports related to Stetson's social media presence
  • Develop social media strategies in support of the university's PR/marketing efforts
  • Develop digital ad strategies to boost admissions and other strategic priorities for the university
  • Report on the effectiveness of Stetson's social media efforts and create statistical reports as needed 
  • Oversee the Student Creative Agency and student workers who contribute to social media as well as serve as a point of contact for the Student Employment Office
  • Serve as the social media consultant for other areas of the university
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to monitor overall social brand presence across multiple platforms
  • Ability to engage/grow conversation with appropriate voice and tone for each social outlet
  • Ability to create, manage, and track social media ad campaigns and other digital ad campaigns
  • Ability to analyze social media metrics for decision-making
  • Ability to assess the value of emerging social networking platforms
  • Must have an eye for detail, strong grasp of web standards, usability standards, social media marketing trends, and SEO/SEM principles
  • Must work well within a multidisciplinary team, capable of processing multiple projects simultaneously and rapidly - sometimes on a moment's notice
  • Ability to lead the institution as a subject matter expert, trainer, and troubleshooter for all things related to social media/interactive marketing
  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, Canva, or equivalent software; Google Analytics and AdWords expertise is a plus
  • Must be able to regularly work outside normal work schedule
  • This position may require extended periods of sitting and viewing information presented on a personal computer screen
  • Support the University’s Mission and Values in their role

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, Marketing, or equivalent education/experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in managing social media, including managing digital ad campaigns, and monitoring and responding to comments

Ideal Candidate Qualifications: 

  • Experienced in managing, coordinating, and monitoring social media, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Flickr, Snapchat, and other social outlets, including the ability to ensure consistency of message and brand
  • Experienced in using social dashboards daily, such as Sprout Social, as well as others on an as-needed basis
  • Can lead, develop, and implement strategies for marketing campaigns on social media, including ad campaigns; can track and report the status/effectiveness of those campaigns and proactively report progress against objectives
  • Can provide consultant services for departments/colleges throughout the university, such as research, audits, workshops or training related to social media
  • Experienced in communicating information during times of crisis through social media, websites, email or other means

Work Environment: The Digital and Social Media Strategist works in an office setting with the University Marketing and Enrollment Management teams in one of the newer buildings on Stetson’s beautiful and historic college campus in DeLand. This position requires in-person work, although there will be occasional opportunities to work remotely, such as for a day or two a week during the summer.

Salary Grade: 6
