Under the supervision of the Director of Career Success, the Associate Director provides education and services for approximately 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students from the College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Business Administration, and the School of Music as well as alumni from each of these programs. This position plays a key role in developing, engaging, maintaining, and strengthening employer partnerships and relationships. The team comprises six full-time staff, five professional staff, and one administrative specialist. Part-time staff include two graduate assistants, five career peers, and three office assistants. In addition to employer engagement, this position leads student-facing employer programming throughout the academic year. Along with all members of the Career Success team, the Associate Director will provide high-quality, individualized student and alumni guidance. The Associate Director acts as part of the Career and Academic Success support team to support overall student success in alignment with Stetson’s Strategic Priorities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with the Career Success team to develop and implement departmental goals, strategies, and programs that are aligned with institutional priorities
  • Work to provide an engaging, accessible, and visible presence through the satellite career office in the Lynn Business Center
  • Provide individual career counseling and coaching to students and alumni, including resume reviews, interview preparation, job search strategies, and graduate school applications
  • Develop a robust network to facilitate student mentorship, networking, and career advancement opportunities
  • Engage, collaborate, and support School of Business Administration (SoBA) business fraternities (AKP and BAP) and partner with members to co-sponsor major career events (event operations volunteers)
  • Develop tools and resources to assist students in career planning, job searching, and professional skill development
  • Create and implement career-focused programming such as workshops, panels, and employer events
  • Conduct outreach to new employers, identifying industries and organizations aligned with the organization's strategic goals
  • Coordinate recruitment and career education events such as career expos, employer visits, and networking sessions
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employer inquiries, engagement initiatives, and vetting new employer partners
  • Develop partnerships with employers and alumni to create pipelines for internships, full-time positions, and other professional opportunities
  • Serve as a high-end user and administrator of HatterJobs (i.e., Symplicity Stetson’s career management platform) with the Director and Administrative Specialist for Career Success
  • Partner with faculty and staff to integrate career readiness into the academic experience
  • Collaborate with SoBA J.J. Master Center for Professionalism to ensure students understand and complete the required ELR (Experiential Learning Requirements), including ultimate approval of final resume for SoBA students
  • Supervise and mentor the graduate assistant
  • Demonstrate commitment to continued education and learning around inclusive practices for career development
  • Stay current with workforce development trends, generational employment insights, and best practices for career education within higher education
  • Serve as a representative of Career Success in institutional committees, meetings, and events as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills to various constituencies, in different environments, and for diverse audience sizes
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including employers, students, alumni, and faculty
  • Prior experience in event planning and implementation
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience
  • Possess a strong business development mindset; motivated by building and maintaining strong professional relationships
  • Strong project and time management skills to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly responsive to inquiries from various stakeholders with consistent customer focus
  • Strong attention to detail, very thorough and dependable
  • Highly proficient with web-based resources, spreadsheets, and presentation software required (MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel).

Required Experience

  • A master’s degree is preferred in an appropriate area with five years of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization with eight years of relevant experience
  • Experience advising, coaching, or mentoring individuals (preferably students)
  • Experience with system administration or career/workforce management software (preferably Symplicity).
  • Familiarity with career development and competencies (preferably National Association of Colleges and Employers).

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.

Work Environment: The physical environment requires employees to work inside and outside when tabling at events during the year. May be requested to work evenings and weekends for special program events. Opportunity for a Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA) with one day of work from home (WFH) per week.
