Assistant Football Coach
Staff (Full-Time) --> Athletics
Reporting to the Head Football Coach, the Assistant Football Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Coach by coaching student athletes, recruiting, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, scheduling, managing travel and overseeing the discipline, conduct, and image of the student-athlete.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:
- Coach an offensive or defensive segment of the football team as designated by the Head Coach
- Develop a program for players’ development during the season, throughout off-season and summer workouts
- Teach the technical skills required to play in the offensive or defensive segment
- Counsel players regarding academic, personal, and team goals
- Oversee and direct all aspects of coaching during practice and games for the assigned position(s)
- Lead assigned positional student-athletes in a coordinated and planned program of practices and competition, with a concern for the players’ health and welfare, physical and psychological preparation
- Guide and actively encourage student-athletes to succeed academically, acquire a degree, and represent the University with the highest integrity
- In cooperation with the Associate AD for Compliance, and Associate AD for Academics, uphold all University academic policies and assist, when appropriate, in counseling student-athletes relative to academic success, progress and eligibility
- Directly supervise student-athletes playing their assigned position, video personnel, and managers
- Responsible for all administrative and organizational aspects of coaching the assigned position(s)
- Operate within the guidelines of an NCAA Division I non-scholarship football program and within the mission of the University and its philosophy of intercollegiate athletics
- Assist in the development and administration of all assigned position game plans and the materials necessary to execute them.
- Responsible for the recruitment of student-athletes, adhering to NCAA, Conference and University regulations regarding recruiting, admission standards and eligibility, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, and assisting in the establishment of effective media relations
- Play a role, as assigned by the head coach, in fundraising activities and serve as a representative of the University to the outside community when appropriate
- Assist in supervision of support staff
- Enforce University and athletic department policies and regulations
Required Skills
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Computer skills (including Microsoft Suite)
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, alumni, administrative staff, admissions and financial aid officers, fellow employees, program boosters, and the public
- Ability to recruit, coach, and teach a wide skill range of athletes the fundamentals and theories of football program and manage all facets of the football program
- Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations; and a commitment to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the NCAA and PFL as required
- Ability to lead with integrity and positively influence the lives and athletic careers of the student-athletes on the football team
- Support the University’s Mission and Values in their role
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of one (1) year of coaching experience at the collegiate level or higher, or five (5) years of related experience
- Experience with day-to-day administrative and operational responsibilities of leading and supervising a football program; including but not limited to implementation of running and workout programs, budget management, professional development, NCAA rules and regulations, organization skills and supporting the educational goals and ideals of the members of the football program

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.

Work Environment: Duties require: both indoor and outdoor work; direct exposure to prevailing weather, extreme heat, humidity, and cold; physical ability to endure physically strenuous work-outs and physical exercise on a daily basis, including standing and/or walking for long periods, bending, stooping, lifting; manual dexterity; lifting of up to fifty pounds; ability to work hours outside the normal University schedule; physical ability to travel; perceptual demands for sound, form, depth.
