Assistant Football Coach, Offensive or Defensive Coordinator (2 positions)

Reporting to the Head Football Coach, the Coordinator (Offensive or Defensive) is responsible for all administrative and organizational aspects of the game. The Coordinator will directly supervise assistant coaches, student-athletes, video personnel, and managers. They must operate within the guidelines of an NCAA Division I non- scholarship football program and within the mission of the University and its philosophy of intercollegiate athletics. They will guide and actively encourage student-athletes to succeed academically, acquire a degree and represent the University with the highest integrity. The coach is also responsible for the development and administration of all offensive or defensive game plans and the materials necessary to execute them. The coach is also responsible for the recruitment of student-athletes, adhering to NCAA, Conference and University regulations regarding recruiting, admission standards and eligibility, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, and assist in the establishment of effective media relations. The coach will play a role, as assigned by the head coach, in fundraising activities and represent the University to the outside community, when appropriate.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:
- Coach an offensive or defensive segment of the football team as designated by the Head Coach
- Develop a program for players’ development during the season, throughout off-season and summer workouts
- Teach the technical skills required to play in the offensive or defensive segment
- Counsel players regarding academic, personal, and team goals
- Lead student-athletes in a coordinated and planned program of practices and competition, with a concern for the players’ health and welfare, physical and psychological preparation
- Responsible for recruiting academically and athletically qualified student-athletes to meet the University’s admission standards and enrollment goals
- In cooperation with the Assistant AD for Compliance, and Associate AD for Academics, uphold all University academic policies and assist, when appropriate, in counseling student-athletes relative to academic success, progress and eligibility
- Foster and maintain positive student body and faculty relations with student-athletes
- Direct involvement with all administrative and organizational aspects of the offense or defense under the supervision of the Head Football Coach
- Supervise offensive or defensive assistant coaches and support staff
- Coordinate coaching assignments for the staff including film breakdown, on field, and all administrative responsibilities
- Enforce University and athletic department policies and regulations in regard to the use/abuse of alcohol and drugs by team members
- Provide signature review of all expenditures within the football operating budget, for submission to the Head Football Coach
- Participate in public and alumni relations and promotions activities as assigned by the Head Football Coach
- Assist the Head Football Coach in cultivating and soliciting donors to meet the fundraising goals as established by the Director of Athletics
- Assist in establishing and maintaining positive relations with the media
- Maintain current knowledge of and adhere to all University, NCAA and Conference Rules and Regulations, Policies and Procedures, paying special attention to recruiting, eligibility, admissions, and financial aid
Required Skills
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Computer skills (including Microsoft Suite)
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, admissions and financial aid officers, fellow employees, program boosters, and the public
- Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations; and a commitment to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the NCAA and PFL as required
- Ability to lead with integrity and positively influence the lives and athletic careers of the student-athletes on the football team
- Support the University’s Mission and Values in their role
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of three (3) years of coaching experience at the collegiate level or higher
- A commitment to the academic goals of Stetson University
- Depending upon the level and responsibilities, the demonstrated ability to recruit highly successful student-athletes, and an understanding of the Pioneer Football League and Stetson philosophy and its role at a private institution

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.

Work Environment: Duties require: both indoor and outdoor work; direct exposure to prevailing weather, extreme heat, humidity, and cold; physical ability to endure physically strenuous work-outs and physical exercise on a daily basis, including standing and/or walking for long periods, bending, stooping, lifting; manual dexterity; lifting of up to fifty pounds; ability to work hours outside the normal University schedule; physical ability to travel; perceptual demands for sound, form, depth.
