ADJUNCT FACULTY POSITIONS, DIVISION OF SPORT MANAGEMENT

 

The Division of Sport Management seeks adjunct faculty candidates to teach a variety of courses face-to-face (no online, virtual or remote teaching opportunities at this time) in our undergraduate and graduate programs. Rank and salary are based on education level, the quality and quantity of relevant industry experience, and the quality and quantity of college teaching experience.

The Division of Sport Management delivers both undergraduate and a graduate coursework in areas such as sport management, sport business, sport coaching, international sports, innovations in sports, and interdisciplinary topics such as esports. Qualifications:

Teaching and experience are at the core of being an effective adjunct faculty member, so experience teaching in higher education in the field of sport management or sport business, in addition to industry experience are highly valued. For all ranks, a master’s degree in the discipline of interest or a related field is required.

 

Experience using the Canvas learning management software (LMS) is preferred, as is experience delivering content remotely via Webex, Zoom, VoiceThread, Panopto and related technology. Candidates with little or no experience using LMS or remote meeting software must be willing to learn how to use these technologies as part of their pedagogy.

 

Responsibilities:

Adjunct faculty work under the direct supervision of the Division Chair. Once assigned a course or courses, they are expected to:

 

·       Prepare and distribute to students a course outline in accordance with the course syllabus.

·       Develop instructional materials (lectures, readings, assignments, exams, projects, etc.) that will achieve the learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus.

·       Evaluate student performance throughout the semester and provide periodic and constructive feedback to students in a reasonable timeframe.

·       Be available to engage with students outside the classroom by email, phone, web conferencing, or face-to-face meetings.

·       Evaluate student performance and post final grades for each student within the timeframe required by the Provost’s Office and be available for two weeks after the semester concludes to discuss final grades with students by email or phone.

·       Promptly respond to requests for information before, during, and after the course as required by the Division Chair and the CCPS Dean’s Office.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act,  the hire-on rate is Adjunct Instructor $1,750, Adjunct Assistant Professor $1,850, Adjunct Associate Professor $1,950, Adjunct Professor $2,150. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
