Specific Job Title: Coordinator of Resource Centers 

Reports to: Assistant Vice President & Director of LGBTQ + Center 

Campus: Queens 

 

Job Summary:  

The Coordinator of Resource Centers is a vital member of the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, responsible for advancing a welcoming, inclusive, and affirming campus climate for students of all cultural backgrounds and gender identities. This position leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services that support underrepresented and marginalized student populations, particularly students of color and LGBTQ+ communities. The coordinator will serve as a visible advocate, resource, and advisor for student identity development, belonging, and success. 

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Multicultural and LGBTQ+ Center, including budget, space, and staffing (e.g., student assistants, interns); 

  • Assist in developing and maintaining data-informed assessment tools to evaluate program impact, student outcomes, and climate-related feedback; 

  • Prepare annual reports and contribute to strategic planning within the office of Equity & Inclusion; 

  • Design and facilitate culturally relevant programming, workshops, and trainings that promote multicultural awareness, intersectional identity exploration, and LGBTQ+ inclusion; 

  • Partner with campus stakeholders to promote equity-centered policies and practices related to student engagement, health, housing, and campus safety; 

  • Organize and maintain the LGBTQ+ Center’s documentation history in compliance with reporting requirements; 

  • Lead communication efforts through the LGBTQ+ Center correspondence, web updates, social media posts, and mass mailing to ensure all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members are aware and engaged with the Center; 

  • Assist the LGBTQ+ Center in planning and implementing campus-wide educational programming and initiatives that support a sense of belonging among LGBTQ+ students, such as Pride Month, Coming Out Day, Lavender Graduation, and others; 

  • Co­-facilitate support programs for the HAUS for Johnnies through the LGBTQ+ Center; 

  • Collaborate with academic departments and student affairs units to integrate inclusive practices across the curriculum and co-curriculum; 

  • Actively participate in university-wide related committees, task forces, and working groups; and 

  • Assist in maintaining relationships with external organizations and community-based resources to support student success.

  • Deep understanding of cultural humility, anti-racism, gender and sexuality, and social justice frameworks. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trust across constituencies. 

  • Program assessment and data reporting proficiency. 

  • Collaborative leadership and interpersonal skills. 

 

Supervisory Responsibility:  

Federal work study students and graduate assistant(s) 

 

Work Environment: 

  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends for campus events and programming. 

  • Office located within a student-centered cultural hub; regular in-person interactions with students and university partners. 

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:  

Monday through Friday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm. 

 

Required Education and Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Social Justice, Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, Counseling, or related field. 

  • 1–3 years of professional or graduate-level experience in student affairs, multicultural affairs, or LGBTQ+ services. 

 

Preferred Education and Experience:  

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a related discipline. 

  • Experience facilitating workshops on equity, intersectionality, and LGBTQ+ inclusion. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including students of color, international students, first-generation students, and LGBTQ+ communities.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary for this position is $55,000. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
