Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Career Services for Student Experience plays a key role in creating a welcoming, inclusive environment that fosters a strong career development mindset among students.
This position supports the design and delivery of programs, services, and initiatives that enhance students’ early engagement with University Career Services. The Assistant Director supervises student workers and/or graduate assistants who serve as front-line ambassadors, welcoming students, alumni, employers, faculty, and staff to the office.
A key responsibility of this role is partnering with Human Resources to enhance and implement a university-wide student employment initiative. This initiative focuses on helping student employees develop career readiness through meaningful, skill-building on-campus jobs and internships.
The Assistant Director also manages daily operations of the central office, including coordinating on-campus employer visits, scheduling department space reservations, and overseeing the Career Closet—a resource offering free professional attire to students. These responsibilities are carried out with the support of student staff and in collaboration with professional team members.
The Assistant Director contributes to strategic planning efforts through collaboration with campus partners, advancing student development and success.

Essential Functions:
As Assistant Director of Career Services for Student Experience, you will play a key role in shaping the student journey and enhancing access to meaningful career development opportunities.
Core areas of responsibility include:
Student Experience

Design, implement, and assess programs and initiatives that support students’ early engagement with career development.

Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment that promotes a strong sense of belonging and professional growth.

Build and maintain supportive relationships with students and recent alumni, providing guidance throughout their career journeys.

Partner with campus colleagues to integrate career development into the student experience.

Develop strategies and outreach to encourage student participation in career-related events and programming.
Supervision and Leadership

Supervise student workers, including front desk and peer advisors, ensuring high-quality service and professional development.

Oversee daily reception and front-line engagement, ensuring a positive and supportive experience for all visitors.

Manage the student team supporting the Career Closet, implementing best practices for inventory management and student access.
Collaboration with Human Resources

Serve as a liaison to Human Resources to co-lead a campus-wide student employment initiative that promotes career readiness.

Develop training and tools to help campus employers create impactful on-campus job experiences, including support for recruiting, onboarding, and mentorship.
Operations

Support the daily operations of the Career Services office, collaborating with staff to ensure efficient, student-focused service.

Handle administrative tasks such as ordering supplies, processing check requisitions, and preparing purchase orders in compliance with university procedures.

Coordinate space reservations, including on-campus recruiting events and interview rooms.

Stay current with trends in career services and student engagement to enhance programs and services.

Ensure alignment with university policies related to student employment and career services operations.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
35 hours/wk.
Travel:
Occasional local travel may be required .
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 1-3 years of Higher Education experience.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Prior experience in career services, Student Affairs, or Academic Advising.
