Specific Job Title: Assistant Men's Soccer Coach
Reports to: Head Men's Soccer Coach

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Head Men's Soccer Coach, the Assistant Men's Soccer Coach will be responsible for assisting the head coach in all aspects of the men's soccer program, including but not limited to: providing coaching and instruction, recruiting, and facilitation of training and practice activities.
Essential Functions:

Provide leadership and instruction in areas of deficiency and motivate student-athletes to promote an atmosphere of accomplishment and confidence, and to always provide for the welfare of team members. An ideal candidate should have goalkeeping, playing, and coaching experience.

Record and maintain student-athlete team statistics and assist with team travel and home competition duties.

Scout and recruit both domestic and international student-athletes for the program who can succeed athletically and academically. Travel is required, both within the U.S. and internationally.

Collect and analyze tactical and statistical data of opponent teams and assist with designing game plans and strategies.

Represent the soccer program, St. John's Athletics, and St. John's University in a professional manner always, and promote positive and productive working relationships with other staff members, campus offices, and the community.

Attend fundraising functions and other departmental/sport functions as required.

Ability to motivate student-athletes to strive to reach individual and team goals.

Knowledge of soccer, goalkeeping techniques, and tactics. The assistant coach will need to take input from the head coach concerning all tactics and technical training.

Excellent written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.

The ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated dedication to the full academic and social development of student-athletes.

Knowledge of NCAA rules and interpretations and will receive annual NCAA Rules Education.
Work Environment:
The Men's Soccer Office is located in the Coaches Annex in Carnesecca Arena. As a result, the employee needs to be able to walk down steps to get to their office.
This position operates in a professional office environment and is expected to represent the university on the road when traveling and at functional events.
Physical Demands:
The Assistant Coach needs to shoot, cross, and have ample soccer ability to warm up and train the goalkeepers. The person in this position will lift heavy weights and have the physical ability to handle bulky or heavy stock items, equipment, and supplies routinely exceeding 50 lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to stand and perform duties on the soccer field, including but not limited to: running, skills work, passing, and shooting.
Specific vision abilities required by the employee include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Environmental Conditions:
The Assistant Coach needs to ensure maintenance of the office and strength room and report any issues per protocol; this position operates in a professional office environment and on the soccer field.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This position is full-time: days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Gameday responsibilities and travelling are required, which may occur on select nights and weekends.
Travel:
Travel is required as assigned by the Head Coach. Applicants should expect a high frequency of travel during the championships season and recruitment periods.
Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree required.

2-4 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics.

Valid Driver's License.

Knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint) required.

Coaching and/or recruiting experience in men's soccer at the collegiate level is required.

Ability to demonstrate and teach advanced skills, knowledge, and strategies of the game of soccer, knowledge of NCAA recruiting and compliance procedures; ability to work independently without direct supervision; excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, and effective written and oral communications skills.
