TITLE: Online Success Coach 

DIVISION: Academic Affairs 

DEPARTMENT: Distance Education 

REPORTS TO: Chief Online Learning Officer 

 

SUMMARY:  
Under the supervision of the Chief Online Learning Officer, the Online Success Coach provides essential support to students enrolled in Distance Education programs. The Success Coach plays a key role in enhancing the student experience by offering guidance, resources, outreach, and personalized support. This position is crucial in promoting a positive academic environment, improving student retention, and helping students meet their educational objectives. The role requires excellent communication skills, empathy, and a genuine commitment to student success. 
 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and execute a comprehensive approach to online academic success support. 

  • Lead the creation and implementation of programs and initiatives that foster student achievement. 

  • Maintain consistent engagement with students, acting as their advocate and connecting them to campus resources as needed.  

  • Conduct proactive outreach to support students who may be at risk. 

  • Partner with other departments to create a seamless and integrated experience for students.  

  • Mentor students, providing them with tools in overcoming challenges, such as time management and study skills. 

  • Deliver individualized coaching sessions based on student feedback and needs. 

  • Analyze data related to student performance, coaching impact, and program effectiveness to inform decision-making. 

  • Develop initiatives to boost student involvement and academic success. 

  • Guide students in building strong study habits, time management abilities, and organizational skills. 

  • Assist students with academic planning, including course selection and registration processes. 

  • Collaborate with academic support teams to develop and implement tools and programs that enhance student success. 

  • Stay current with advancements and best practices in online education and academic support. 

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:  

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in education or a related field. 

  • At least three years of professional experience in higher education, online learning, academic support, or a related area. 

  • Strong skills in data analysis and reporting.  

  • Familiarity with online education tools and technologies. 

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing student needs and diverse populations. 

PREFERRED: 

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in education, psychology, or a related field 

  • Knowledge of student development theories and best practices in academic coaching. 

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. 

 

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary ranges for this position are NYC Metro Range - $64,350 - $71,100 and National Range - $55,000 - $61,850. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.  

 

This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
