IT Project Manager Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Information Technology Project Manager to join our institution's Information Technology department. In this strategic role, you will be working directly with the Chief Information Officer to understand the capacity and resourcing required for technology projects and help create a process for strategic prioritization.
You will handle prioritizing and managing key initiatives within the Information Technology department, ensuring that they align with the institution's goals and objectives. You will lead the evaluation of software tools and/or services to drive and manage the project work for the department. You will also help to develop and refine project prioritization strategies within the department and project management standards. You will lead and oversee IT projects aimed at improving and enhancing our technology infrastructure, systems, and services.
Major Responsibilities include:

Collaborate with senior IT leadership to identify and prioritize strategic initiatives that support the institution's mission and objectives.

Lead and manage IT projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.

Define project objectives, scope, and requirements in alignment with strategic goals.

Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk assessment.

Collaborate with various departments and stakeholders to define project objectives, scope, and requirements.

Coordinate project teams, assign tasks, and monitor progress.
-
Manage project budgets and track expenses as needed.
-
Identify project risks and issues and ensure senior leadership is up to date.

Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
-
Communicate project status and updates to senior management and stakeholders.
-
Evaluate project outcomes and make recommendations for improvements.

Stay current with IT trends and best practices to inform strategic decisions.

Manage multiple infrastructure projects at a time from beginning to end, taking ownership of the projects, ensuring they are within scope, and providing clear written and verbal updates to clients and upper management.

Resolve customer questions and problems escalated from the Service Desk, Service Owners, or directly from customers, providing business-specific expertise.

Assist with vendor management.

Serve as the primary liaison between business units and IT as new products, infrastructure upgrades, or processes are rolled out.

Collaborate with internal IT teams to evaluate technology and provide input as to what the University may need.

Coordinate with various departments that must implement projects to ensure smooth implementation.

Work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, interacting directly with business owners over the phone, through email, and in-person onsite support.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Proven experience as an IT Project Manager, with a minimum of 5 years in a similar role.

PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is a plus.

Strong understanding of project management methodologies and tools.

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Capability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Proficient in project management software and tools.

Experience in the education sector or higher education institutions is a plus.

Demonstrated ability to work in an agile environment, where priorities and directions may shift based on shifts in the higher education landscape.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $110,000-$124,000. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
