Specific Job Title: Director of Marketing & Communications 

Reports to: Maciek Nowak - Dean 

Campus: Queens 

 

Job Summary:  

The Director of Marketing & Communications for the Tobin College of Business will plan, develop, implement, and oversee the college’s communications strategy, including digital marketing, marketing collateral, and social media plans, with the goal of driving undergraduate and graduate enrollment and promoting the College and faculty in the media. Working collaboratively with the university’s offices of Marketing & Communications, Alumni Relations, Media Relations, web support, and with external vendors, the Communications Manager will promote and execute the college’s marketing initiatives.  

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Establish and foster relationships with the Dean, faculty, and senior administrators to develop a comprehensive marketing plan at the undergraduate and graduate levels. 

  • Create and execute various communications campaigns and programs using digital media, email marketing, marketing collateral, and social media programs. 

  • Effectively manage available resources from Marketing & Communications and Tobin; collaborate to conceptualize, develop, and implement various campaigns to increase enrollment, visibility, and ranking. 

  • Develop a more engaging Tobin website and work with the University Office of Communications and Marketing to ensure content is current. 

  • Review and edit marketing content to ensure tone and style are consistent and complement the college and the university. 

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns on conversion and enrollment (e.g., track all responses to digital campaigns). 

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Graduate Enrollment, the VP of Undergraduate Enrollment, and the Senior Vice Provost. 

  • Develop, design, and write print and electronic materials to promote the college’s strengths, special events, and noteworthy happenings, including press releases, pamphlets, brochures, and newsletters. 

  • Serve as editor for the bi-annual Tobin Alumni magazine.  

  • Provide coverage and support at events which include (but are not limited to) honor society awards and inductions, graduation, and significant speaker events. 

  • Manage relationships with external vendors. 

  • Serve as key communications counselor on crisis issues.  

  • Stay current with best practices and standards in digital marketing  

  • Work with the faculty to publicize their research and increase their media mentions. 

 

Competencies: 

  • Master's Degree required; MBA preferred. 

  • 10-12 years of Marketing, Communications, and/or Public Relations preferred. 

  • Working knowledge of demonstrated ability to apply standard theories, practices, principles, and techniques related to communications in the media and marketing areas; thorough knowledge of web communication techniques and ability to effectively use web technology to achieve communication goals. 

  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills; thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and modern English usage; and the ability to initiate and create correspondence independently. 

  • Exceptional interpersonal and networking skills and strong consultative and persuasive skills. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products. 

  • Proficiency in digital media, marketing strategies, and applications. 

  • Experience in parsing lists, developing campaigns, and evaluating campaigns. 

  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends to meet deadlines or attend events. 

 

Work Environment: 

This position operates in a professional office environment, with the ability to handle confidential matters. It requires using a desktop computer, a photocopier, a scanner, and a Scantron machine. 

 

Physical Demands: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily be sitting and occasionally may be required to stand at events, move about, sit, climb stairs, and communicate.  

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: 

This position is full-time, Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Individual must be able to work occasional evenings or weekends to meet deadlines or attend events. 

 

Travel: 

Travel is primarily local and may include visits to the other NY campuses. 

 

Required Education and Experience:  

  • Master's Degree required; MBA preferred. 

  • 10-12 years of Marketing, Communications, and/or Public Relations preferred. 

 

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $90,000-$120,000. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.  

 

This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
