Financial Aid Advisor External Awards (Open Position) 

 

The Financial Aid Advisor for University Assistance and External Awards shall handle: 

  • Managing billing, crediting, and monitoring the funding of over $10 million annually in external scholarship awards and employer tuition reimbursement programs in conjunction with private, city, state, and federal external sources. 

  • Assisting the Director in the awarding, renewing, and monitoring all institutional and expendable grants and scholarships funded through donors to the University. 

  • Serving as a liaison with other University offices, outside agencies, and foundations related to the processing and billing of external agencies and grant funding.  

  • Utilizing university e-mail software and coordinating mass-financial aid e-mail efforts, including package letter notification, endowment notification, FAFSA filing notifications, and other e-mail campaigns as determined by the Director of Student Financial Services. 

  • Assisting in designing, processing, and merging of large-scale financial aid mailings, including but not limited to: Financial Aid Package Letters, Shopping Sheets, Global Studies Mailing, External Scholarship notification letters and Endowment Notification Letters. 

  • Reviewing and coordinating financial aid ledgers for external scholarship, international, special program, and misc. accounts with the office of Business Affairs. 

  • Overseeing the completion of all Financial Aid/Enrollment Verification forms. 

  • Keeping the Executive Director abreast of any issues related to external awards or expendable funds that could impact the timely processing of loan applications and/or other funding. 

  • Reviewing and completing federal verification cases, ensuring accuracy, and maintaining accountability by careful attention to detail in compliance with federal regulations. 

  • Counseling prospective and enrolled students and parents to assist in reviewing financial aid options and tuition management decisions. 

  • Assisting with resolving problems when necessary. 

  • Delivering seamless, effective customer service to a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, alumni, and outside agencies. 

  • Performing all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Financial Aid. 

 

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Two years prior related experience preferred
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner is a plus

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary for this position is $64,350. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.  

 

This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
