 Job Title:  College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences Director of Development 

Reports to: Senior Director of Development for Advancement 

 

Campus:Queens 

 

Job Summary:  

The College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences Director of Development will be responsible for major gift  fundraising for the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, which includes the new Nursing program. Responsibilities include managing a portfolio of approximately 125-150 prospects/suspects including alumni and friends of the University. The Director will be asked to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors to the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, as well as work with prospects who support the Nursing program.    

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 125-150 prospects for the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and report directly to the Senior Director of Development for Advancement 

  • Work closely with the Dean of the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and the Director of Nursing Program to develop opportunities to solicit prospects for major gifts 

  • Develop strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of the portfolio group 

  • Determine donor interest and direct them toward University/College priorities 

  • Develop and execute an individualized plan for each prospect 

  • Recommend suitable giving opportunities and prepare major gift proposals for University priorities 

  • Achieve goals which include both cash and pledge commitments 

  • Work with other members of the Advancement team to appropriately engage key prospects in advancement activities  

  • Participate as an active member of the prospect management process, including Prospect Management Meetings in developing strategies for all major gifts prospects and planned giving prospects. 

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including: leadership, project management, teamwork, analytical thinking and client/customer awareness.  

  • Expected to be able to work in social settings and have an outgoing personality, work with changing priorities and manage multiple projects. 

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including a high level of attention to detail. 

  • Must be able to solve problems and troubleshoot issues, work independently and use sound professional judgement. 

  • Advanced computer skills and knowledge required, specifically with Word, Excel, Access and other database environments. Experience with Affinaquest/Salesforce is a plus. 

 

 

Work Environment 

Working in the University Center, where Institutional Advancement is housed, as well as off campus, on occasion. Primary equipment use includes the phone, laptop computer, and commercial printers.   

 

Physical Demands 

Physical demands are minimal; communication with staff and ability to articulate needs are paramount.   

 
 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work 

Full Time position with office hours matching University business day as well as off hours; attending events on nights and weekends. Expectations are for flexibility as needed for event and fundraising opportunities outside of those hours.   

 

Travel 

There may be some travel involved since prospects that are assigned may not be local. Having a car is necessary for this position.    

 

Required Education and Experience:  

  • Master’s Degree preferred 

  • Minimum of five-to-seven years experience in Development 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of development practices and principles and a track record of success in managing major gift prospects and in closing gifts. 

  • Demonstrated skill to work within a complex environment with strong capabilities in planning, organizing and managing. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and peers in the Advancement area and with internal partners and external volunteers. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills 

  • Flexibility to travel, largely on a regional basisOccasional weekend and evening work will be necessary, as well as travel nationally.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual/hourly salary range for this position is $110,600 - $122,385. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.  

 

This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
