Job Summary: 

Student Health Services seeks an energetic and dedicated Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide general medical services for St. John’s University students on campus. Student Health Services operates as an on-campus urgent care facility. The NP will conduct medical histories and physical examinations, develop treatment plans, perform minor procedures, prescribe medications, and manage immunization requirements and health clearances of students as required by their program for successful academic experiences outside of the classroom. The NP will also be involved in health education programming for students.  

 

Student Health Services is housed within the Department of Student Wellness at St. John’s University. The Department of Student Wellness engages in an integrated approach to wellness that fosters collaboration between Student Health Services, Wellness Education and Prevention, Center for Counseling and Consultation (CCC), Office of Disability Services (ODS), Campus Recreation, and Sexual Violence Outreach, Awareness, and Response (SOAR). The Department of Student Wellness comprises a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including nurse practitioners, registered nurses, psychologists, social workers, counselors, consulting psychiatrists, fitness professionals, and graduate assistants. 

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Assess, plan, document, and evaluate patient needs and treatment.  

  • Refer the patient to local providers/or facilities as appropriate 

  • Collaborate with other members of Student Health Services and Student Affairs.  

  • Work with other disciplines within the university to provide quality healthcare outcomes for students’ academic success.  

  • Anticipate problems and work to problem solve.  

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the patient’s right to confidentiality.  

  • Assist students in identifying their health needs better and acquiring the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary to manage their health needs appropriately. 

 

Competencies: 

  • Experience with a college student population strongly preferred. 

  • Experience providing telehealth services. 

  • Knowledge of current health, mental health, alcohol, and other drugs, and social issues on university campuses 

  • Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity, and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds. 

  • Experience using electronic medical records, preferably Medicat. 

 

Work Environment: 

This position operates in a professional office environment, and the incumbent must use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, move about, sit, carry work, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, and communicate. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 10 lbs. 

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: 

This position is a full-time in-person position based on the Queen’s Campus. Hours can vary throughout the year and will likely be as follows:  

  • For 10 months, from mid-August to mid-June, hours will be from 8:30 am to 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM on Fridays.

  • During the break from June to mid-August, the provider will be off for 2 months.  

  • The provider's salary will be distributed over the course of 12 months, even while the provider is out of office.  

 

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Graduate of an accredited BS nursing education program and a master's degree in nursing. 

  • Adult or Family Practice Nurse Practitioner.  

  • Board Certified by the ANA AND AANP or ANCC. 

  • A current New York RN And APRN License and prescriptive privileges. 

  • An active DEA License. 

  • BLS certified by the American Heart Association. 

  • Completion of 3600 hours as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner with a collaborative Physician.  

  • Prior Experience in primary care or urgent care. 

 

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • Experience with a college student population strongly preferred. 

  • Experience using electronic medical records, preferably Medicat.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $88,000 - $105,000. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.  

 

This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
