Simulation Educator for the Nursing & Health Profession Programs
Position Function
This individual will educate, coordinate, and integrate all curricular simulation and lab activities for primarily the Nursing Program and other health profession programs as needed.
Organizational Structure
The individual is under the direction of the Director of Simulation with an indirect report to the Chair, Department of Nursing.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
The Simulation Educator is responsible for planning, designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating simulation based learned activities for the nursing program.
This includes, but is not limited to:

Collaborating with the Director of Simulation and nursing faculty to create and facilitate all Simulation Based Experiences (SBE) of the simulation center and nursing skills labs.

Facilitating the learning process and creating a safe and supportive student learning environment.

Educating and teaching students in the simulation center and nursing skills lab as needed.

Serving as the primary educator for students in open labs requiring additional support.

Providing individual teaching and support for students for practice and remediation of technical skills and competencies as requested by faculty and students.

Evaluating student performance in the simulation and skills lab in coordination with the Director of Simulation and course faculty.

Serving as the lead facilitator of orientation and training of all adjunct faculty and standardized patients as needed and overseeing performance and development.

Ensuring that all simulation and skills labs are set up, torn down and maintained on a schedule to meet the learning objectives of students.

Ensuring that all required simulation hours are completed each semester as per NYS and accreditation standards under collaboration with the Director of Simulation.

Participating in continuing education to maintain certification or seek certification.

Incorporating International Nursing Association of Clinical and Simulation Learning (INASCL) Standards of Best Practices and continuing to ensure compliance each semester.

Creating, coordinating, and participating in interdisciplinary educational activities involving the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

Overseeing the regular maintenance and repair of all simulation equipment including computers, audio-visual equipment, and simulators as needed.

Communicating effectively with equipment manufacturers as needed.

Providing technical support for all equipment within the simulation center and skills labs.

Assisting with faculty development, support and training related to the use of simulation.

Collaborating with faulty/staff in reporting of program activities, standards, accreditation requirements, educational concerns, and achievement of student success.

Participating in activities to obtain Simulation in Healthcare (SIH) Accreditation

Maintaining the simulation center and skills labs to meet CCNE accreditation standards and site visits.

Assisting faculty in the development of simulation competencies and evaluations tools to achieve student learning outcomes.

Recommending and researching the need to service and/or purchase additional equipment and supplies for the simulation center and nursing skills labs.

Creating and maintaining a weekly schedule which ensures adequate coverage for all simulation and lab activities throughout the academic year in collaboration with the Director of Simulation

Actively participating in Simulation Committee meetings as scheduled.
The Simulation Educator accomplishes this through the following:
Qualifications

Earned master's degree in nursing.

Must hold an unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in NYS.

CHSE (Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator) certification preferred.

Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience working in Simulation and skills lab teaching.
Required Technical Skills
-
Familiarity with PC and MAC platforms and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment.

Familiarity with Canvas platform.

Advanced proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Intermediate proficiency with Adobe Suites.
-
Advanced proficiency with Google suite, including Google Calendar and Drive.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
