Specific Job Title:  

PT Assistant Coach, Men’s Lacrosse

Justin Turri - Head Coach, Men’s Lacrosse

Job Summary:  

The Assistant Coach, Men’s Lacrosse works part-time and assists the coaching staff with all duties and responsibilities related to the operation of a NCAA Division I lacrosse program. Duties will include coaching current roster members, recruiting prospective student-athletes, and performing administrative responsibilities related to successful program operation.   

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Individual development and instruction of student-athletes within the men’s lacrosse program.

  • Recruitment of future student-athletes. 

  • Any other logistical responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach. 

 

Competencies: 

  • Candidate will have experience within a college athletics environment whether as a coach or player 

  • They must exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills and possess the ability to think independently within their job functions 

  • They must be a self-starter with strong work ethic who is willing to problem solve and think analytically. 

  • Candidate should be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams) and film software (Scorebreak and Hudl). Teamworks and ARMS experience is a plus. 

 

Supervisory Responsibility: 

This position directly manages St. John’s university lacrosse student-athletes and reports directly to the Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach. 

 

Work Environment: 

This position operates in a day-to-day professional office environment combined with an athletic environment that uses athletic facilities around the St. John’s University Queens campus. The position will be required to use standard office equipment such as laptop computer, iPad, cell phone, printer/copier, and projector, among other thingsBusiness-related travel by car, plane, and/or train and stays in hotels or other arrangements will also be required. 

 

Physical Demands: 

A requisite level of physical fitness will be essential to perform the duties associated with this job. While performing duties of this job employees will be required to stand, walk, run, pick up heavy objects, and perform lacrosse-related skills including, but not limited to, catching, throwing, shooting, and cradling.  

 

Environmental Conditions: 

This position will require outdoor work throughout the year including heat, cold, rain, snow, and strong winds. 

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: 

This is a part-time position working 982 hours over a 12-month period.  Workdays/weeks vary dependent on time of yearWeekend work is expected, and hourly workdays will vary based on practice times and other factors as set forth by the head coachLonger days will be expected around scrimmages and games, especially when traveling to away contests.   

Approximate Annual Breakdown of Expected Work: 

7/28/24 – 8/31/24 = OFF (5 weeks) 

9/1/24 – 12/14/24 = 20hrs/week (15 weeks) 

12/15/24 – 1/18/25 = OFF (5 weeks) 

1/19/25 - 5/26/25 = 34hrs/week (18 weeks) 

5/27/25-6/18/25 = OFF (2 weeks) 

6/8/25 – 7/26/25 = 10hrs/week (7 weeks) 

 

Travel: 

Travel for scrimmages, games, and recruiting purposes will be required throughout the year. Trips will be located primarily throughout the United States. 

 

Required Education and Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree. 

  • Playing experience at the collegiate level. 

  • Valid driver’s license and passport. 

 

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • Coaching/recruiting experience at the collegiate level.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $28,000-$32,000. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.  

 

This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
