 The Division The Division of Computer Science, Mathematics and Science delivers undergraduate programs in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics and Networking and graduate programs in Computer Science, Data Science and Cyber and Information Security. The division is seeking someone to teach courses in  person on the Queens Campus in computer science including Java Programming, Dat Structures, Operating Systems and Software Engineering.

 

Qualifications  

For all ranks, a master’s degree in the discipline or a related field is required. At the instructor level, relevant industry experience and college teaching experience is preferred. At the assistant professor level, relevant industry experience and college teaching experience is required. At the associate professor level, extensive relevant industry experience and college teaching experience is required, and an earned doctorate in a related field is preferred. At the full professor level, extensive relevant industry experience, extensive college teaching experience, and an earned doctorate in a related field is required.

 

Experience using Canvas or Blackboard learning management software (LMS) is preferred, as is experience delivering content remotely via Web Ex, Panopto, or Zoom. Candidates with little or no experience using LMS or remote meeting software must be willing to learn how to use these technologies as part of their pedagogy.

 

Responsibilities

 Adjunct faculty work under the direct supervision of the Division Chair. Once assigned a course or courses, they are expected to:

 

  • Prepare and distribute to students a course outline in accordance with the course syllabus.
  • Develop instructional materials (lectures, readings, assignments, exams, projects, etc.) that will achieve the learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus.
  • Evaluate student performance throughout the semester and provide periodic and constructive feedback to students in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Be available to engage with students outside the classroom by email, phone, web conferencing, or face-to-face meetings.
  • Evaluate student performance and post final grades for each student within the timeframe required by the Provost’s Office and be available for two weeks after the semester concludes to discuss final grades with students by email or phone.
  • Promptly respond to requests for information before, during, and after the course as required by the Division Chair and the CCPS Dean’s Office.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hire-on rate is as follows: Instructor - $1,250.00, Assistant Professor - $1,350, Associate Professor - $1,450, Professor - $1,650.  St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
