DevOps Engineer

The DevOps Engineer is a combination developer(DEV) and system admin professional (“OP”-erations) who can bridge the gap between developers and the IT team. A DevOps Engineer must thoroughly understand the software development lifecycle. As well, they must understand the automation tools used to create the CI/CD (continuous integration/continuous delivery) pipeline, which minimizes coding errors and facilitates rapid deployment of higher-quality products. DevOps engineers guide code releases from development to distribution across development, test, quality assurance, and production infrastructures. 


Specifically, there are many roles a DevOps engineer may assume–or they may do them all. As a software developer, they are responsible for building software releases and testing the new code. As an automation expert, they will use tools that automate the development, testing, and integration of software releases/fixes. As a release manager, he/she is responsible for releasing new features across the organization and making sure those releases are stable. And as a security officer, they will continually monitor the product’s (system’s) health and security once the updates are deployed. 


DevOps engineers’ responsibilities include analyzing production errors to define and create tools that help mitigate problems in the system design stage and applying user-defined integrations, improving the user experience. 


Finally, to be efficient in the position, the DevOps engineer identifies changes that are necessary to maintain optimal system performance while liaising with management to successfully target and deploy solutions.   




  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field 
  • 4-6 years of related experience
  • Expert in code deployment tools (Puppet, Ansible, and Chef) 
  • Skilled in web services dedicated to devops profile (e.g. CodeCommit, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, Codepipeline) etc. 
  • Skilled with configuration management tools such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible 
  • Understanding of TOMCAT web server concepts 
  • Experience in network, server, and application-status monitoring. 
  • Possesses a strong command of software-automation production systems (Jenkins/Selenium/Maven). 
  • Expertise in software development methodologies. 
  • Working knowledge of Ruby or Python and known DevOps tools like Git and GitHub. 
  • Working knowledge of databases (ORACLE) and SQL (Structured Query Language). 
  • Working knowledge of containerization tools concepts (Docker, ECS, Vagrant), Docker preferred 
  • Possesses a problem-solving attitude. 
  • Works independently and as part of a team.
