Associate Accountant, Payroll Operations - Temp to Perm

Position Details
- Process employee payroll maintenance transactions, including direct deposit updates, federal and state tax withholding elections (W-4 and state tax forms).
- Assist with entering, updating, and monitoring wage garnishments, child support orders, tax levies, and other involuntary deductions.
- Complete employment verification requests while ensuring compliance with company policies and privacy requirements.
- Assist with gathering and validating payroll data for audits, subpoena requests, unemployment claims, and other compliance-related inquiries.
- Perform data entry and validation to ensure payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
- Support payroll processing activities and special projects assigned.
- Follow appropriate policies and procedures to ensure that Southland maintains compliance with all state and federal laws as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Respond to internal and external customer inquiries in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience preferred
- 0-3 years of payroll experience preferred
- Familiarity with wage garnishments, tax withholding forms, and employment verification processes preferred
- Strong organization skills with high level of attention to detail
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
- Able to analyze and resolve basic issues
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate level ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. required
- Able to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment
- Works under direct supervision
- Makes decisions within defined guidelines

Pay: Final pay is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. For California this ranges from $25 - $29/hr plus annual incentive, benefits, and retirement program as outlined above.
