POSITION SUMMARY

Manufacturing Technologies (MT) is a critical subdomain of Southland’s AEC team, focused on enabling a fabrication and manufacture-first mindset while driving operational efficiency through standardized, connected solutions. As the Manager of Manufacturing Technologies, you will provide strategic oversight and leadership across three key areas: Fabrication ERP systems (Stratus), Fabrication CADmep databases and Revit content, and shop technologies. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining standards, driving continuous improvement, and positioning Southland as an industry leader in the fabrication and manufacturing of MEP and fire protection systems, as well as in industrialized construction and design for manufacturing and assembly (DfMA).

You will guide, mentor, and develop teams to ensure technology solutions align with business objectives and support scalable, standardized workflows nationwide. Travel to divisional offices and fabrication shops is required.

What you’ll do:

Relationship Building/Management

  • Build strong working relationships and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, including project managers, IT, shop managers, and divisional leadership, to ensure alignment on manufacturing technology goals and strategies.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor, clearly articulating technology vision and aligning initiatives with business objectives.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, shared accountability, and continuous improvement across AEC teams and Manufacturing Technology subdomains.
  • Engage with industry groups and trade organizations to stay current on emerging technologies and trends that could benefit Southland.

Workflow Optimization

  • Work with division leadership, functional groups, and corporate teams to implement enterprise systems and develop divisional workflows where needed.
  • Analyze existing processes to identify opportunities where manufacturing technology can reduce inefficiencies, improve accuracy, and increase productivity.
  • Oversee the development and refinement of standardized workflows to support consistent, high-quality outcomes.
  • Guide teams in integrating fabrication and manufacturing principles into design and construction processes to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Identify and support opportunities for automation and process improvements within shop and design workflows.

Technology Deployment

  • Oversee the end-to-end implementation of manufacturing technology initiatives across Southland.
  • Provide strategic oversight into the implementation and optimization of Stratus across all divisions.
  • Direct the development, maintenance, and standardization of Fabrication CADmep databases and Revit content.
  • Lead the deployment and integration of advanced shop technologies and equipment with digital workflows.
  • Support the growth of new shops, including organic expansion and integration through acquisitions.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and lead pilot programs to assess potential new tools and systems.

Change Management

  • Develop and lead change management strategies for new manufacturing technology rollouts, ensuring smooth adoption and minimal disruption.
  • Engage stakeholders early to communicate benefits and address potential concerns.
  • Establish feedback loops to gather insights from users to continuously improve adoption and refine processes.
  • Design and implement training programs to ensure team members are proficient in new tools and systems.
  • Champion adoption of industrialized construction and DfMA practices throughout design and fabrication processes.

Support and Documentation

  • Provide mentorship and coaching to strengthen team capabilities and encourage professional growth.
  • Oversee development and maintenance of comprehensive documentation for configurations, workflows, standards, and best practices.
  • Ensure teams uphold policies and procedures that drive consistent execution and support continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and document performance metrics to assess the impact of deployed technologies and identify improvement opportunities.

Strategic Planning & Governance

  • Collaborate with AEC leadership to ensure manufacturing technology goals align with overall corporate strategy.
  • Develop and execute long-term strategic plans that support Southland’s business goals and operational needs.
  • Ensure technology standards are consistent and scalable to support the company’s national footprint.
  • Monitor industry trends to guide future initiatives and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Participate in yearly planning processes, facilitating engagement across divisions and regions to inform strategic decisions.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Proven experience overseeing Stratus and leading ERP or fabrication management system implementations.
  • Deep knowledge of Fabrication CADmep, Revit, and digital content creation workflows, with expertise in guiding teams.
  • Strong understanding of shop technologies and experience supporting machinery integration with digital systems at a strategic level.
  • Familiarity with HVAC, mechanical piping, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical fabrication workflows.
  • Experience establishing and supporting standards for design, fabrication, and shop operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing and developing cross-functional technology teams and projects.
  • Strong commitment to industrialized construction and DfMA principles.
  • Excellent communication, listening, and problem-solving skills; ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to manage complex issues requiring in-depth analysis and balanced decision-making.
  • Dedication to building high-performing teams and supporting continuous learning and growth.
  • Experience with or knowledge of additional software (e.g., Autodesk Construction Cloud, Navisworks, Naviate Fabrication/MEP) is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support divisional offices and shops.

What you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in construction management, engineering, information technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing technology or field technology management, preferably in construction or MEP systems.
