POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the CIO, this senior IT leadership role provides oversight and support for cross-functional management of information technology across the enterprise. Responsibilities include managing IT strategy, governance, and defining IT methodologies, processes, and tools. The role ensures the IT organization "does the right things" through strategy and governance and "does things right" through operational model development and oversight of key department processes. Additionally, it manages IT finance, resource capacity planning, and approaches to key vendor management. The role works with IT leadership teams to develop IT capabilities such as innovation management, digital transformation approaches, enterprise architecture, and helps support acquisition due diligence and integration. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management, excellent leadership skills, and preferably, a deep understanding of the engineering and construction industry.
What you’ll do:
1. Strategy & Governance/Strategic Planning
o Responsible for driving focus and prioritization within the IT organization through establishing strategic planning and governance principles and processes.
o Partners with the CIO in providing technology vision and direction for the enterprise.
o Works with the CIO and business leadership team, providing broad insight to IT domains and capabilities in support of enterprise-wide business strategy and decisions.
o Stays current with developments in new market trends and innovations in technology and the leadership of enterprise IT.
2. Program & Project Management
o Collaborate with the CIO to develop and implement the IT project management methodology, ensuring alignment across IT functions.
o Lead the PMO in managing the portfolio of projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
o Mentor and develop the project management team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
o Help the IT teams to Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project delivery.
o Help teams to maintain clear and consistent communication with all stakeholders, including project teams, senior management, clients, and vendors.
o Monitor and report on project performance to measure success and identify areas for improvement.
o Develops processes and coaches the team on Organizational readiness and Change Management – mindset, tools/techniques.
o Develop frameworks to track and test Emerging technology opportunities
3. Financial Management
o Responsible for directing the preparation, review and consolidation of business plans and budgets for the IT organization.
o Responsible for preparing and directing the monthly Forecasting process for the IT organization.
o Work with IT leadership to review IT costs and cost structures for IT services and projects so that the financial implications of IT activities are communicated to the proper stakeholders.
4. Administration/Operational Support for the IT team
o M&A Support – following up on technical details and consolidation of information for IT leadership to help drive progress on due diligence and or integration activities.
o Oversees the development and maintenance of IT policies, procedures, methodologies, and governance — as well as performance management frameworks and metrics — to ensure the IT organization delivers value to the enterprise.
o Helps IT Leaders develop and manage strategic vendor and partnership relationships.
o Manages the team of people (contractors and employees) who make up the office of the CIO/PMO.
o Drives and facilitates effective collaboration and communications between the IT organization and the user and customer communities.
What you’ll need to be successful:
- Strong leadership capability with proven track record of successful team development and working effectively with all organizational levels - - Big-picture thinker and details oriented
- Proven track record of innovation, both in problem solving and in fostering innovative uses of technology in the organization
- Ability to effectively drive business, culture, and technology change in a dynamic and complex operating environment
- Expertise in budget planning, financial management and workforce management
- Expert in IT strategic planning, IT governance formulation, and organizational change management
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions, and strategic application to business needs, including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hype
- Ability to improve operational efficiency, service delivery and information management across the IT organization
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade others
- Strong customer and user experience focus
- Ability to adapt to a wide range of activities without losing focus to handle the diverse nature of tasks within the IT Department effectively
What you bring to the table:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Over 15 years of experience in IT, with a minimum of five to seven years of experience of team management and leadership responsibilities.
- Experience in business/industry (beyond IT), managing cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders.
- Experience with M&A – Due diligence and Integration activities.
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
- Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) or IT service management (e.g., ITIL).
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Asana, Microsoft Project, Primavera).
- Preferred to have some experience within the Architecture, engineering and construction industry and or other project-based industries/businesses.
