Senior Business Analyst - Payroll

POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Sr. Payroll Business Analyst to join our Business Operations Technology team. This process-driven and business-focused position is dedicated to enhancing and supporting payroll systems—primarily COINS Payroll—through a combination of technical configuration, user support, and process optimization.
Acting as a liaison between the Corporate and Division Payroll departments and IT, this role is responsible for the ongoing support, configuration, maintenance, and improvement of our construction payroll solutions. The successful candidate will collaborate cross-functionally with IT and the business to deliver accurate and timely payroll solutions. Strong analytical skills, construction industry payroll experience, and familiarity with union/CBA and Prevailing Wage/Davis Bacon schedules as well as payroll processing best practices are essential. Expertise in COINS ERP or other HRIS/payroll platforms is required.

What you’ll do:
Business Technology Support
- Serve as the COINS ERP Payroll Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Tier 1 and Tier 2 ERP support teams.
- Investigate, collobrate and resolve technical issues with our COINS Payroll system. Replicating problems reported by the support team in non-production environments. Troubleshoot the issue with the users and propose effective technical solution scalable solutions based on business needs.
- Maintain detailed records of support cases using Zendesk, managing issues from intake to resolution. Keep users informed on issue status and document solutions in a knowledge base for future reference.
- Coordinate with vendors as needed for escalated support cases, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication with stakeholders.
- Provide system documentation and contribute to user training materials as necessary.
Technology and Process Improvement
- Partner with Corporate and Division Payroll teams and seek to understand their business needs. Where appropriate, document their workflows and perform value stream mapping.
- Identify, recommend, and validate process improvements that enhance operational efficiency and system effectiveness.
- Lead small projects to implement and deploy new software functionality or features that align with business goals.
- Participate in larger cross-functional initiatives as a payroll Subject Matter Expert, ensuring financial and operational requirements are accurately represented and addressed.
- Contribute to user acceptance testing, scenario validation, and go-live support activities.
What you’ll need to be successful:
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
- Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) or IT service management (e.g., ITIL).
What you bring to the table:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, or a related field
- In lieu of a degree, 5+ years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or payroll will be considered
- 3+ years of direct construction payroll experience may also substitute for educational requirements
- Experience with COINS Payroll or other enterprise payroll/HRIS platforms (e.g., UKG, Ceridian Dayforce, Workday, etc.)
- Proven understanding of payroll processes, especially in construction or unionized environments
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Experience providing end-user IT support and troubleshooting
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical users
- Customer-centric approach with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.
